Two Women Setup Website After Fatal Car Crash

After the death of Casey Ryan Bokhoven in a car crash, a website has been setup for family and friends to mourn his loss. On March 11, Bokhoven was killed in a car crash by anchor Tolly Carr of WXII(Channel 12, NBC) in Winston Salem. Carr was charged with driving while impaired.

Jacqui Causey and Katie Simmons have a site up after hearing Carr's comments about the crash at a local church. Carr's comments by his lawyers released no specific reference to the death of Bokhoven or any charges filed against him. However, Carr did express remorse and asked for everyone's prayers, support, and money.

"This is something that has ripped through this city," Simmons said. "After Tolly Carr's speech, people were very angry. He wasn't remorseful for taking Casey's life but because his career's at stake."

The website has drawn people that have been impacted by drunk driving as well as family and friends. Those who have viewed the site also want justice to prevail in this case.

The police report stated that Carr was driving 50 mph in an area marked at 35 mph. His pickup truck was travelling at 30 mph when he hit Bokhoven, who was standing on the side of road across the street from his home. That same report also said that Carr was impaired while driving. The drug test is pending.

Carr, 32, faces one count of driving while impaired. That charge doesn't take into account the death of Bokhoven. Additional charges can be filed, and a hearing is scheduled for April 2.

Carr spoke at a March 18 church service asking the congregation to pray for Bokhoven's family. However, Carr never mentioned his name. He talked about the guilt he felt, and that he let his mother and grandmother down. He also made mention of the career that he jeopardized as a result of the fatal crash.

Carr initially refused a Breathalyzer, but police officials obtained a search warrant to have his blood drawn for analysis. The results of the tests should be released in mid-April.

Carr was released on a condition that he signed a written promise to appear for his court date.

A WXII employee, Fjola I. Wilson, was also in the car when it crashed. She was released from the hospital, and is recovering from her injuries.
