Two-way Mirror

this is what i thought i saw
through the wavering glass
blurred with smoke
and regret:

the moon looking down
watching closely
for spaces between us-
it could not slip through
and it left

water, grass
trees splitting wide
with the sky
and the sound
the explosion like everything

laughing
i saw us
laughing

and must have been dreaming.

snow, it was cold
toes burning in the ice
tears freezing in the wind
taillights
smoke

through the glass i see
the words
feel them
because hearing is too much

gentle, late
the quiet ones
convincing and pure
the violence
the rage
the words

the words and i am
fist breaking glass
walking above the shards
untouched
and away.
