Tylenol Recall Product Not Dangerous so Far

Nausea and Somach Pain Two Major Symptoms

Gary Davis
There has been a Tylenol recall. The Tylenol recall was voluntary and was announced by the FDA and McNeil consumer Healthcare. The Tylenol recall apparently involved one specific product.

The "Monthly Prescribing Reference" has posted an article titled "Tylenol Arthritis Pain 100-count EZ-Open cap recall." The title about says it all.

To be more specific the recall deals with all lots of Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplets. This acetaminophen and further they are 100-count (100 per bottle) bottles with EZ-Open Cap.

I have linked to a site where they list all the lot numbers because it is such a large number I wanted to make sure they were accurately listed. This is at WebMD.

Further Daniel J. DeNoon has posted an article titled "Tylenol Recall Expands." A quick count reveals there are about 53 lots that are recalled.

Apparently the problem with the Tylenol is not a dangerous one. The bottles are yielding an odor that sickens people and smells "moldy."

It further appears that the reason this is happening is that there a chemical that is used to treat the wood that makes up the pallets that transport the boxes of Tylenol.

This chemical has been identified as 2, 4, 6-tribromoanisole. The moldy odor it has been causing has caused nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. No one has been seriously sickened.

If you have purchased this product you are to stop using it and return it. You can get a refund or a replacement and you can contact McNeil at 800-222-6036 during the hours of 8a.m.-8p.m. through the week Eastern Time and 9a.m.-5p.m. Eastern Time on the weekends.

Any time I see a recall of Tylenol I am reminded of the Tylenol murder case in 1982.

In 1982 there were seven people who were murdered in Chicago by poisoned Tylenol. As a matter of fact no one was ever even charged with the crime.

As a result of this incident the tops of medications started to be safety-sealed. Before that time there was simply a cap and cotton inside.

Again, check the lots provided and if you find you have one call the number I have listed to McNeil.
