Originally, the promoters said Steve was only shaken up and just needed a few stitches. The tour was expected to go on as scheduled. But doctors have since decided Steve is not ready to return to the stage.
"Earlier today, an announcement was made indicating that the show will go on in Winnipeg as the initial diagnosis of Steven Tyler's injury was satisfactory," Michelle Szeto of Paquin Entertainment said in a press release. "However, after further medical attention, Aerosmith's management has informed us that the show will need to be postponed."
No official announcement on the full extent of Tyler's injuries has been made.
Tyler, still on the mend from a recent leg muscle injury, tumbled backwards while dancing on the stage catwalk and fell into the crowd. Tyler had been entertaining the crowd at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally awaiting the repair of a technical glitch during the performance of "Love in an Elevator."
Festival security pushed through the record crowd and assisted the shaken singer back to the stage.
Tyler appeared to have sustained injury to his head, neck and shoulder area, but the seriousness is not yet known.
He was helped backstage and the remainder of the show was cancelled.
According to witnesses, Tyler was joking with the doctor and in good fairly good spirits as he was being airlifted to hospital.
The Aerosmith tour has been plagued with bad luck since it began.
In a revolving door fashion, Tyler, guitarist Brad Whitford, and most recently bassist Tom Hamilton have been sidelined due to health issues and injuries.
The band had previously been forced to cancel multiple shows on their tour schedule when the 61-year-old Tyler pulled a leg muscle at the outset of the tour.
At this point, only the Winnipeg show has been postponed. But upcoming shows in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver over the next week could also be effected. It is expected that the fate of the shows be decided on a day-to-day basis dependent on Tyler's condition.
No makeup date for the Winnipeg concert has yet been announced.
