Types of Drug Abuse

Rebecca Garnett
Drug abuse is never something to take lightly it is the use of drugs (either licit or illicit) in sufficient quantity and frequency to interfere with a person's ability to make sound decision, use appropriate actions and fulfill responsibilities. Most people that are drug abusers are not able to function properly and become very unreliable.
There are many different side effects to drug abuse, physical, metal and emotionally. Not to mention what it does to your family and friends, your job and your bank account.

This article is to make you aware of the different types of drug abuse and the signs and symptoms that may occur.

Alcohol is one of the biggest types of abuse there is and the most common one heard of. As generations go by the age that kids start drinking at seems to be younger and younger.

Nicotine may not be looked at as a drug abuse so to speak. But if you look at the overall side effects of smoking it can be as harmful as any other drug. It just takes longer for the side effects to kick in and it's legal.

Marijuana is one of the more common drugs used today. It is made from the flowers or leaves of the cannabis plant. Most people take it because it relaxes you, however some of the more serve symptoms with excessive doses include:
Anxiety, fear of dying, panic attack, hallucinations, vomiting and so on. Marijuana intoxication usually lasts up to 3 hours (longer in some cases), some thought and coordination problems can last up to 24 hours and memory problems for several weeks. If someone who is pregnant is smoking marijuana the complications for the baby would be low birth weight or smaller.

Inhalants are another form of abuse. Probably not as commonly heard as, as much as the other 3 are but still very dangerous. Inhalants can be found in household products; spray paint cans and are usually used by teenagers.

Drugs have two different forms to them. You have your prescription drugs which are legal but can still be dangerous if used in the wrong way. Then you have the illegal drugs that can be bought off the streets, from friends or dealers. Now days you can even buy drugs off the internet.

Now matter what type of abuse is being used, they all can end in a very painful death if enough is being used. If you are concerned about your teen, friends or family call your doctor or a helpline for more information.
