Types of Old Windows

Olga L. Chacon
Old window wood frames were made in the 1800s. And metal window frames were made in the 1500s. Wood frames contain old growth wood rings, which made the wood durable and stable. You can easily restore window wood frames to last one hundred years more. Old windows were made of pieces of glass that were tightened with lead strings.

Old 6-Lite Window

This Six Lite window is one among the different types of old windows. This window was made in the 1800s. You can find bubbly type glass on this window.

Cast Basement Window

The Cast Basement window was made in 1874. This window was obviously used for the basement. You can see a two pane frame attached to the Cast Basement window.

Four over Four Window

Four over Four window has poured glass panes. The Four over Four is a seven-foot tall window. This old window was around in the 1800s.

Sash Window

Sash window is another among the many types of old windows. This Sash window was made in the 1600s. You can slide the window up and down.

Personal Experience

If you still have old windows in your house, you may be able to restore these, and save on buying new windows. If you have bars on your windows such as I do, you may want to paint the bars. Believe it or not, but painting the bars makes the windows look almost like new. It makes a big difference.
