Types of Wall Phones

Linda Stamberger
Wall phones are used by people in businesses and private homes. They are the most modern of phones, and some collectors of antique phones like to use restored wall phones as well. Wall phones come in a variety of colors, and have the most modern functions; including answering machines, call waiting, and more. Wall phones are great for use in kitchens, or wherever a person multi-tasks. Cordless wall phones are best used in kitchens and offices, where one may need their hands free, while cooking or typing. Many people prefer cordless wall phones to corded, for they can walk from room to room, without the hindrance of the cord attached to the phone.

Corded Wall Phones

Trimstyle desk wall phones are a current phone on the market, and are made for use as both a desk phone, and a wall phone. These wall phones have a cord attached, and are mounted against the wall jack, when not used on a desk. The phone itself has various functions; such as memory dialing, and answering machine capabilities. Corded wall phones come in all different shapes and sizes, but the trimstyle types are more advanced than older model phones of bulky size.

Cordless Wall Phones

The VTech 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone System with answering machine is a higher tech cordless phone, which comes in elegant silver and black colors. Cordless wall phones are the same as corded wall phones, except they come without the cord, and can be carried by hand to various rooms.

Antique Wall Phones

Antique wall phones are often restored and resold by professionals. They are hooked up to the electric modern wall jacks, but have the original features of the antique phones; such as a hand crank and call bells. A popular antique wall phone is the coffin wall phone. The coffin wall phone was shaped like a box, and came in a silver metal color, and very expensive (for the time) walnut wood. The walnut antique phones are most collectible of the phones made from wood.
