Tyra's Teeneville Experiment and the Truth it Revealed

I usually don't watch Tyra's show, but this morning, when I stopped channel surfing to watch, I was astounded. Tyra decided to take twelve teens from across the country, have them 'create' their own community with a town flag, give out 'professions' such as mayor, garbage man, convience store owner, religious leader, et al. There was even a prostitute and a homeless person. What came out of the short experiment about teens and their thinking was telling to say the least. Why? Because these young people, for the most part, were expounding upon mores and values which were being passed onto me, my siblings, and friends more than twenty years ago. and are still bounced around today.
In a Utopian world, where we could honestly claim to have adequately learned the lessons of thirty and forty years ago. Sadly, this is the real world and the reverse is true. When the 'convenience store owner' declared he was 'gay', his moniker changed to 'gay guy'. This teen lost his true name, his accomplishments, his ability to contribute to a diverse society within the community--all because of his sexual preference. The 'mayor' was chosen by one member of the community simply because he was from the South and white, in spite of the fact he was very much in favor of having the Confederate Flag as the community's emblem, and the Cross as a sign of religious solidarity . The mayor chose to 'marry' a prostitute over a homeless person, when it came down to 'looks'. I don't mean to focus on this young man, but the facts a clique formed quickly in support of his narrow opinions on most issues was frightentingly close to reality. The silent majority sat quietly by and allowed others to dictate what happened within their community out of the fear they would also be singled out as 'trouble maker' or 'way out there'.
In true 'reality tv style', the group had to 'banish' some one who did not fit in. Was it the 'gay guy'? The 'homeless person'? The 'garbage man'? The 'thief'? Or even the 'police chief'? No, it was the 'Banker'. Why did they chose her? Because she told the truth about herself, her choice not to subscribe to a 'state run religion', to not marry a virgin, and chose to marry 'the gay guy' in spite of the fact he was gay, so on and so forth. She brought forth credible arguments to a 'mob mentality'. And was ostricized for it.
Where were the parents in all of this? They were watching silently on the side lines. When Tyra brought them on stage, and asked for their own thoughts, only a few spoke up in defense or praise of what their children espoused. After watching the show, all I could think of was, how accurate the portrait really is. I've lived in cities as well as in rural America. It made no difference if the community were 12,000 or a few million, we move to places where the dicotomy is the same. We cling to the 'devil we know' in order to keep a semblence of order within the chaos. But what if in the face of logic, debunking, and plain old evolution we discover those ideologies to be false? Doesn't it create more chaos to keep those old devils active than to let them go?
Astrologers like Lyn Birkbeck, recently pointed out we are now entering into a planetary phase not unlike what we saw world wide in the Sixties. The same issues, questions, and possibilities--and FAILURES--are now rising in other guises in the course of our daily lives. This planetary phase is to last from 2007 until 2020. It's time to put up or shut up. We have one planet, one human race, and those issues are now calling for action. And I'm not talking about the pre WWII mentality of 'big stick politics'. I'm talking about action which creates unity, not disunity. Other authors, such as Al Gore, puts the situation into perspective in a pretty convincing and unmitigatingly honest way in his book, "An Assault on Reason".
We are distracting ourselves from what is really important to the continuation of the human race. Media critics and arm chair quarter backs are still harping on Kathy Griffin, Brittany Spear's appearance, the Rosey and Trump feud. These are only a few examples. I am very thankful to have watched the recent Tyra Banks Show this morning. I wish she would do more shows like it. It begged the question, what are we teaching our children to worship? What are we teaching our children is important? Is it sharing love with another human being in an honorable way? Is it the prevelance of one religion over another? Is it material wealth and ignoring our fellow man in their need? Or is it something much more?
I once read a paradox is 'truth standing upon it's head, so you can look at it another way'. This morning I watched a true paradox. And it came out of the mouth of Babes.
