U2 Conference Rescheduled to Correspond with Concert

Sabne Raznik
For some time, a historic event has been in the making: the first-ever academic conference dedicated to the study of a rock and roll band. The legendary Irish rockers U2, now the most popular musicians just behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles respectively (and in fair running to at least equal The Beatles), are the objects of discussion.

Original plans for this conference were for it to take place in New York City in the spring of 2009, but the economic downturn forced its sponsoring university to drop funding for the event and it was postponed.

Yesterday, June 5, 2009, it was announced that the conference has a new sponsor and new dates. Now called "The Hype and The Feedback: A Conference Exploring the Music, Work and Influence of U2", it will be hosted by the H. M. Michaux School of Education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, from October 2 - 4, 2009. The band of honor themselves will be playing their Raleigh show of their upcoming 360 Degrees Tour that very weekend and conference attendees will likely make that concert part of their itineraries.

All speakers and papers as accepted for the original date will be asked to present their material at the rescheduled event. Would-be attendees were refunded the costs of registration at the time of postponement and will therefore be asked to register again. Information regarding this will be announced at a later date as plans are finalized.
