UCR Student Commons A.K.A. Highlander Union Building (HUB)

The new commons area at UCR is the blunt definition of modern and revitalized. This amazing space, created for and funded by the students of past and present for the future generations of Highlanders is one of the most 'incredible' changes I've yet to witness.

Where the flat building with pool tables and fireside seating were once placed for private communities, now a three story cylindrical tube stands with tables and chairs, rooms and calming designs seen from any and ever angle. Perhaps it is because of this soothing effect that some playing Magic cards choose to let loose and shout their opinions on different cards. "Deck out," one calls, and the group is in uproar about aliens and monsters. Amazing.

Despite all the comforts and cushion the inside has to offer me, I still find that the outside astounds me the most. No, captivates me to my utmost attention. One side remains the same, untouched, unchanged, unsoiled. Whilst the other has given into the modernization of man. Yes, truly, it is for the benefit of all to start imposing the designs of 'peacefulness' to all who set sight on the structures of calming articulates, but I find it much more than coincidence that it is the center which has been revitalized and the outsides still living in another time period.

Silly concept, time; the witness of power, pleasure, and pain, and the least tangible of all that has been given to man. No, not given; let to man. Indeed, the sheer beauty of the effects of time is indescribable, but what makes the matter ideal is the infinity that pertains to it. Surely, words cannot be used, pictures too few, and the universe unable to answer such the question.

I leave it all to the Creator, may questions not be laid at my door but at his feet. Surely, the Author and Finisher of life would know the answer as to what and why time has evolved the simplicity of UCR into the Business of LA and the half-beauty of SD. The modernized Irvine isn't even comprehendable, though stuck into the terrain like it belonged. A new identity, yes, a new definition now placates the home of thousands of peoples, families, and organizations.
