The winner of the big-time fight between heavyweights Roy Nelson and Frank Mir will likely be in line for another matchup with a top contender and close to a title shot, and it comes as no surprise that the two had an intense fight in Las Vegas.

The UFC 130 live results for Mir vs. Nelson are in and Frank Mir has won by UD.

Mir started out strong in the first round in a fight that featured a great deal of clinching and technical positioning. He landed a big judo throw into a mount on "Big Country" Nelson but wasn't able to land a ton of damaging ground and pound on the fellow jiu-jitsu black belt.

Fans of the UFC had a hard time choosing between the two favorites but Mir, who was booed at the weigh-ins, gained a lot of fans by out-positioning Nelson in the first two rounds.

Mir came out looking trim and fit while Nelson seemed out of shape as usual. The fight in Vegas seemed to show Nelson's physique catching up to him for the first time in a while. He was flat-out exhausted. While Mir became tired around the second round as well, Nelson was the one who seemed to be gasping for breath.

In the third round, Mir landed a knee and a front-kick on his exhausted opponent as well then clinched up and threw some more knees for good measure, which weren't quite as effective, however.

Mir also showed off his improved wrestling in this UFC 130 fight. He had two nice takedowns in the second round and got Nelson down with another well-timed one in the third as well.

Another takedown on a still-tired Nelson seemed to deflate him even more. Working off his back is not Nelson's strength as he is more of a top-control guy who always seems to use his big ole' belly effectively against his smaller opponents.Yet another takedown came at the 1:19 mark to seal the deal even more for the former heavyweight champ Mir.

Some ground and pound added insult to injury as time wound down as well against the fan favorite.

As the horn sounded, Nelson embraced Mir and it seemed all but inevitable that the UFC 130 result would end with Mir's hand raised.

Mir took home a unanimous decision victory and seemingly has now thrust himself back into the title picture as he continues to improve and make his game more and more well-rounded.
