UFC 134 Rio: Shogun Vs Forrest Odds Pick

Another Upset for Forrest?

Nick Meyer

The first fight between Forrest Griffin and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua was one of the most surprising upsets in UFC history according to many people.

Forrest has a ton of big wins and is one of the most established light heavyweights ever but many were still quite surprised he took out Shogun, a PRIDE Fighting legend. Now, many fans are wondering again and having a difficult time deciding on a Shogun vs. Forrest odds pick for their UFC 134 Rio fight.

Shogun will have the home advantage in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, his home country, and Forrest's confidence has been repeatedly questioned since his devastating, embarrassing loss to another Brazilian, Anderson Silva.

But he has the blueprint for beating Shogun, as he is bigger, longer, and seems to have better cardio than him at this stage. In the first fight, Forrest managed to wear him down before crawling on his back and getting the rear-naked choke for the victory.

Many Shogun fans as well as unbiased observers have noted that he was battling injuries during that first fight and expect to see a whole new fighter in their second get-together. The odds for this one are solidly in favor of Shogun, but many have chosen to pick Forrest in this fight.

Forrest has shown he can beat Shogun before and that will be key for his psyche going into this one. Both guys like to throw leg kicks but Forrest seems as though he has the edge in that department because of his size.

Shogun is indeed the more technical striker and wrestling and jiu-jitsu should be fairly even in this one for the most part.

This could come down to Forrest staying focused and following the game plan, and throwing lots of leg kicks while clinching and wearing down the smaller Rua. It won't be easy, but a lot of things seem to be in Forrest's favor going into this one.

Rua has to be questioning his own confidence a bit after being decimated by Jon Jones in his last fight, and he also seems to have trouble with bigger opponents, making Forrest a good pick in this UFC 134 co-main event fight by decision.
