UFC 91 Main Event Review: Brock Lesnar Annialates Randy Couture

David Vs Goliath Match Where Goliath Destroys David

On November 15th in Nevada, The MGM Grand Garden Arena was packed full of people. 14,272 fans to be precise, according to Dana White. Everyone was ready for the fight of the night - Randy Couture vs Brock Lesnar.

I was winning the tournament of Poker with my 11 friends, patiently awaiting the big moment. Then the Metallica "Enter Sandman" song came on and Mr Brock Lesnar came out. We had to put our game on pause to see the monstrous 6ft 3inch, 270 pound giant walk onto the ring. Soon after that relaxed Randy Couture (6.1 220 pounds) joined him in the Octagon. Bruce Buffer did his announcements and the David Vs Goliath match began.

Even 2 weeks before the fight, I kept saying 3 things:

1).Couture Shouldn't fight and should just enjoy his retirement while he is on top.

2) If Randy Couture fights Brock Lesnar than he should stick to his stand up, wear Brock out and then he will win, if he gets taken down he will definitely lose, just because of Brock's size, even if we assume that both of them are experienced wrestlers.

3)Brock Lesnar does not deserve a title shot, because he has only had 3 MMA fights prior to this venue, comparing to coutures 24.

But we all know that show business outways common sense, so Couture came out of retirement to fight Lesnar since he loves to fight and the money is good.

He tried to keep the stand up but got caught by a punch behind the left ear. And Dana White wanted to make crapload of money on Brock so he let him have that title fight and we have our result Brock TKO's Couture in the 2nd round at 3:07 when refferee stopped the fight due to strikes to the face.

Now for the outcome and what happened:

I gotta give props to both of the fighters because both of them worked hard. Randy defended several take down attempts and landed several combinations to Brocks face, while Brock opened the 1st round with a beautiful knee to the body and obviously landed several devastating punches to Randy's face, first one being an uppercut in the second round, and the second one to the temple of the head that knocked Couture down at 3:00 minutes in second right .

Couture would have won the fight if he just concentrated on his boxing experience and kept wearing Brock down. That was his only chance of winning, against the guy who had weight, height, reach and age advantage. Coutures advantages was his experience, speed and endurance. I think he was worried about being taken down too much and underestimated Brocks stand up.

So overall I give this fight a 10 and want to say that it was well worth the money.

As far as the fighters go:

I give Brock a 9 because Brock did what he came out there to do, with the exception of pacing himself. He was getting winded by the end of the fight. You could tell that by the open mouth breathing But everything else was amazing. His stand up improved, he lost weight and still looked humongous, and his power and reach are stunning as always.

I give Couture a 7 because first of all he looked like he lost a lot of muscle and gained fat. He is 45 after all. Second he didn't stick to the plan completely and didn't do as much striking as he should have, but he did demonstrate a big heart and a great take down defense.

Oh just a little note on the side, me and my friends had to stop and laugh when Brock during after the fight interview with Joe Rogan said: "I thank God for blessing me with my body and I just want to say God God Bless You". That on my opinion was worthy of George W, That was just funny to hear someone worry about God's health. Yes, God stay Healthy, God Bless You God. Please bless yourself. You bless You. Ok enough :)

In conclusion, I think it was a good fight even though it should have never taken place, and I do think if Couture was younger and did more striking he would have won that fight. This is my thoughts not yours, until next time on UFC main event review with Lord Fury :)
