UFC 93 Predictions and Thoughts

Jason Sacks
Undercard:

Nate Mohr vs Dennis Siver

Both of these fighters are riding on mediocre careers. The stand-up game seems indentical, with the edge to Nate Mohr. Dennis Siver seems to have the ground advantage in this UFC 93 bout. Dennis Siver by submission in round 3.

Thomas Egan vs John Hathaway

While Egan has faced slightly harder competition, Hathaway is maintaining more experience fighting than Egan. Look for a hard fought close fight in this bout between perfect records. Hathaway by unanimous decision.

Tomasz Drwal vs Ivan Serati

As both fighters are riding win streaks, expect this to be an exciting undercard bout. Drwal gets the nod simply because his ground game is stronger. Drwal by unanimous decision.

Eric Schafer vs Antonio Mendes

Both fighters have shown strong ground games, yet antonio failed to defend properly against Thiago Silva in their recent bout. The nod goes to Schafer due to a stronger ground game. Schafer by TKO in round 2.

Martin Kampmann vs Alexandre Barros

Both fighters have a wealth of experience and are currently riding good records. Kampmann has proved himself in international competition while Barros fights mostly other brazilians. The nod goes to Kampmann in the stand-up department, while Barros has a slight ground edge. Kampmann by KO in the first round.

Main card :

Jeremy Horn vs Rousimar Palhares

Horn has looked as mediocre as ever, losing poorly or winning in sloppy bouts. Palhares has been proven a warrior after lasting 3 rounds in losing fashion to Dan Henderson. It seems that horns only chance to win will be by KO or TKO standing up. Palhares by strikes on the ground in the round 3.

Marcus Davis vs Chris Lytle

Both fighters have been impressive as of late, especially Davis. They are both known for strikes but Lytle has a stronger ground game than Davis. I see Lytle taking down Davis for most of this 3 round fight. Lytle by unanimous decision.

Alan Belcher vs Denis Kang

Belcher has been mediocre in the UFC, sporting a 4-3 record and displaying less than amazing fighting skills. Dennis Kang has also been mediocre of late, sporting a 3-3 record in his last 6 bouts. Kang will have something to prove being a pride fighting debuting in the UFC. I see Kang being very determined in his training to not be another Pride dud. Kang by KO in round 2.

Mark Coleman vs Mauricio Rua

Coleman's win over Mauricio Rua in their previous bout was a total fluke. Yes, the takedown was clean, but the result was not the intended one. Rua needs to work his defense from gaurd and his submissions in this bout in order to win, as no amount of training from this point will help Rua defend against the monster coleman's takedowns. Rua has already won a bout against similar fighter Kevin Randleman by brutal submission, so i expect the same in this one. Rua by submission in round 2.

Rich Franklin vs Dan Henderson

This should be the fight of the card. Both fighters have proved time and time again that they won't quit and are serious contenders for belts of multiple weight classes. I believe the instance of cutting and weight changes in this bout won't matter, as both of these fighters have switched weight classes time and time again. Henderson has a clear wrestling advantage, being one of the best wrestlers in all of MMA. Franklin should have a slight striking advantage, although Henderson has been impressive lately in the stand-up department. The slight edge goes to Henderson, Henderson by unanimous decision in an excellent fight.
