The UFC's next welterweight title mega-fight is almost ready to be announced according to several sources and MMA fans are starting to choose sides.
The predictions for the GSP vs. Diaz fight, which could take place in December if all goes well, are mostly in favor of Georges St-Pierre but Nick Diaz, the Strikeforce champ, is getting some love as well.
This fight could turn out to be a boxing matchup between two of the most evolved strikers in the game.
Diaz is one of the best boxers in MMA even though he looks a little sloppy at times. His looping punches are very effective, however.
Then there's GSP who is a great technical boxer in his own right and he's got a well-rounded arsenal of kicks as well.
If this one does turn into a boxing match, or kick-boxing match, that is, it's a little tough to tell who would have the edge. But the x-factor of course would be GSP's wrestling.
Critics of St-Pierre have stuck to a familiar refrain. They say he's boring and that he can't finish and that his wrestling is relied on way too much. But GSP didn't even need to wrestle against Josh Koscheck as he jabbed him to death (practically speaking of course), and he didn't need it much against top grappler Jake Shields either.
GSP will come into this one looking to bring it back and to do whatever he can to take the fight to the physically not-as-strong champ from Strikeforce in his return UFC bout.
Diaz had a run in the UFC already so that experience will be key in his return to the Octagon. But St-Pierre is still way too well-rounded for Diaz at this point and more athletic.
Yet again, GSP's Olympic-level conditioning, explosiveness, and skills will be the difference.
While this could be an exciting fight, it's not quite the legends match an opponent like Anderson Silva would provide. Regardless, it's still going to be a big one and the GSP vs. Diaz predictions will be interesting to watch. For now, the pick here is GSP by TKO in the 5th round.

Post a CommentYes, the fight should happen and at the end of the year and at Montreal. GSP needs to prove himself worthy to fight Silva in the near future. So Diaz should be the next opponent, I do think GSP will win but not by TKO, but by decision.
