UFC Undisputed 2010 Gameplay

Robert Headley
On May 25th the newest mixed martial arts game from THQ and the Ultimate Fighting Championship will hit shelves. Here today I want to take a look at the UFC Undisputed 2010 gameplay improvements and additions to the game. As great as the original version was there are plenty of things that could and probably were improved for this year.

There was a ton of headache when trying to learn the different techniques and tricks on the original version of the game. They made some changes for the UFC Undisputed 2010 gameplay and we will go over those here in this article. I want to encourage everybody after they have read the next couple pages to feel free and comment as well.

One of the big changes that I've noticed and heard about for the UFC Undisputed 2010 gameplay is in regards to the grappling. This is both standing up and on the ground. The control stick will be used standing up just like it was on the ground to allow movements, counters and possible throws or trips. This means that if your opponent has you in a Muay Thai clinch you could possibly turn it into a throw or trip and reverse the position.

The submissions were a large point of debate on the original game and thus was a focus for some UFC Undisputed 2010 gameplay improvements. The submissions will be kinda the same but a balance will be there between skill and stamina for the fighters. For example if fighter A has more skill than fighter B it won't matter if fighter A is nearly out of energy. There is a balance that must be met in order to pull off a move or defend against the submission attempt.

One area that was missing from last years version was the ever important use of the cage. Fighters such as Randy Couture have made using the clinch against the cage a big factor in many fights. Therefore it makes perfect sense that this is one of the UFC Undisputed 2010 gameplay improvements that gamers can look forward to come May 25th. I would think of it almost as the same with the ground game. The fighter with his back to the cage will be at a slight disadvantage in some areas and the game will reflect that disadvantage.

In closing I just want to name off a few other UFC Undisputed 2010 gameplay changes and improvements. One that I dislike and will cause some fuss is cuts and injuries being able to stop fights just like in real life. Imagine having an undefeated fighter and lose a fight on the game due to a cut. It would be pretty crappy but that is sometimes how mixed martial arts works just ask Fedor Emelianenko. Also they have added Sambo, Karate and Greco-Roman wrestling to the styles.

The link below talks about some of the many improvements they have done to career mode and create-a-fighter.
