UFC Undisputed 2010 Video Game Review for X-box 360 & Playstation 3

Let's Get to Some Real Fighting!

J G Hodnette
UFC has had rising popularity since being founded in 1993 as an alternative to staged wrestling which has maintained high popularity since the 90s. UFC is real fighting with intense, bloody fighting from athletes trained in being able to do some real damage with their fists. Sounds like a good video game? UFC agrees. They released their 2009 title with THQ after EA Sports turned them down on the idea, thinking that it wouldn't be popular. The first installment was very popular, however, and now THQ gets to reap those benefits with an all new game: UFC Undisputed 2010.

Premise

Ultimate Fighting League (UFC) is a mixed martial arts company that hosts tournaments throughout the year. Their fights have become very popular in America in the past couple of years, so chances are you have heard of them. Many parents may know it only as the sort of thing that you would never allow your kids to play. The fighting is certainly not the sort of thing that a child should be encouraged to emulate, but if you are a bit older than you certainly may be interested in stepping into the role of one of these amazing fighters and winning the title as ultimate fighter yourself. After some controversies the UFC instituted stricter rules to ensure safety of the athletes, but with a video game there is no need to protect anyone. You get to enjoy the fights in as brutal a way as you can imagine, or not. Fight the way you want to.

Changes from Previous Installment

UFC Undisputed 2009 was named the best individual sports game at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards. It was a very good game and THQ wanted to only make it better by improving much of the game that could use some fine tuning. In the 2010 version, the controls have been redesigned with a redesign of ground and clinch grappling. The career mode has also been expanded for more gaming pleasure. Other improvements are impressive Mortal Kombat style finishing TKO moves based on the martial art style of your fighter. Naturally they are not as over-the-top as in Mortal Kombat, but still they are a nice bit of satisfaction after a long fight. There are also some new arenas include The 02, Center Bell, and GM Place.

Conclusions

The game is being released for PS3 and X-box 360. For the PS3 3 extra fighters are included along with 5 secret fights. All of the fighters in the game are from the actual 2010 roster so you'll be able to choose your favorite as you would in any other sports game. The review have been mostly positive so far. The biggest complaint is that the career mode has too many menus which take away some of the fun. It has been given between a 8 and 9/10.
