UFOs Over Florida

Vast Sightings: Fact or Fiction?

Linda Stamberger
There have been numerous sightings of unidentified flying objects over Florida for decades. Florida is known for odd happenings, and some believers say that Florida is the perfect geographical location for UFOs to visit. There is Homestead Florida, where Edward Leedskalin carved the natural wonder called the Coral Castle; moving thousand pound rocks of limestone by himself with nothing more than a primitive, at best, contraption. So how did he do it? Was the Earth's geography at that point a vortex of some sort, a draw for otherworldly beings, due to UFO sightings over that area and Miami as well?

There is also the fact that Florida's location to the Bermuda Triangle may have something to do with all that is otherworldly in the skies. Florida is also home to the Eglin Air Force Base near Gulf Breeze Florida; where there have been numerous sightings. The most famous UFO sighting ever documented in Florida was in 1987, when Gulf Breeze building contractor Edward Walters photographed a spacecraft, which later was thought to be a hoax; though Walters remains steadfast in his photo and encounter with an alien ship.

MUFON, the Mutual UFO Network, a leader in UFO study, is aware of this story and many accounts of UFO sightings in the area since Edwards's story broke. In Gulf Breeze there seemed to be heightened activity compared to other Florida locales. There have even been reports of eyewitnesses saying UFOs were coming out of the water. These types of UFOs that go in and out of water are actually called USOs.

There are sightings all along the East Coast as well; from the Nasa Space Shuttle Launch area at Cape Canaveral in Titusville, to St. Augustine, even parts of the panhandle, near Pensacola, close to the air force base. Are they planes, weather balloons, secret air crafts from the U.S. government on a test mission? No one knows for sure. To skeptics, there is a logical explanation for everything. To believers, there is something strange going on in the Florida night skies, something otherworldly and interplanetary. One of the biggest hot spots for UFOs is said to be the Mosquito Lagoon, where the Indian River meets the Intra-coastal waterway.

So the next time you come to Florida, and are enjoying a nice evening, don't forget to look up at the sky on a clear night. You never know what you may see flying amongst the stars!

My husband and I live by Mosquito Lagoon and have seen some strange things in the sky at night. We just assumed they had something to do with the Kennedy Space Center, but I like the idea of them being UFOs or USOs ;-)

Interesting! Do you know what's with the "your name" and "type in the two words" thing before you can post a comment? Something to take up more time, I guess. Bummer!
