Ugly Dip. A Quick and Easy, Spicy and Meaty Dip Idea

Dotchi Latham
Ugly Dip is one of my favorite dip to make for parties, get togethers or just a treat for when I want something spicy. The first time I saw Ugly Dip it was not appealing at all. One taste and that changed EVERYTHING!

You'll understand the name when you see it in the Crockpot. Don't let looks deceive you though! Ugly Dip is very good and very spicy. If you get past the look of it and actually try it, you'll understand why Ugly Dip is my favorite!

Ugly Dip Note: While the recipe calls for a Crockpot, you can also make it on the stove top with a pot over medium high heat. The idea is to melt everything together. Don't let the Crockpot scare you away.

What You Need to make Ugly Dip

1 pound of ground beef

1 pound of ground hot sausage

1 can of cream of mushroom soup

16 ounces medium or hot salsa (Picante sauce works too)

16 ounces Velveeta Cheese

Making Ugly Dip

Brown the ground beef and sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat. Drain and dump into the Crockpot.

Open the Cream of Mushroom Soup and the hot/medium salsa. Dump them into the Crockpot too.

Cut the Velveeta into cubes (strips work also) and dump them in the Crockpot then; stir everything together. At this point you'll think I am nuts. Just wait, it gets better.

Turn the Crockpot on high and let it cook until everything is melty, gushy and looks like... well, chunky vomit. Trust me! It's really delicious!

Ugly Dip Tips, Tricks and Ideas

If you want to make this go faster, you can microwave the meats in a large microwave safe dish. Just make sure you stir it every couple of minutes or so. You'll want to break it up smaller chunks when it is done microwaving. This doesn't change the taste of it at all.

You can make a mild version of Ugly dip by replacing the hot salsa with mild salsa and replacing the hot sausage with regular sausage. It still tastes good, it just won't have the kick of the original Ugly Dip.

This tastes great with corn chips but is a hit as a base for a burrito. Lay out a flour tortilla and add the ugly dip, lettuce, tomato, cheese, avocado, Spanish rice, sour cream and anything else you like on a burrito! Enjoy!

Caution! This is addicting! Don't say I didn't warn you!

New to me too, I imagine it looks rather like dirty oatmeal, but tastes great. A friend of mine used to make sausage balls with Tennessee Hot Sausage Meat - so good and spicy.
