Ugly-Tie Cellphone Case for the Perfect Inexpensive Father's Day Gift

An Inexpensive Father's Day Gift

The traditional Father's Day gift of an ugly tie can now be repurposed into something so much cooler (and infinitely more useful). The best part of this Father's Day gift is that it will be a fraction of the price. An Ugly Tie cell phone case can be made for literally just a few dollars and a little time at a thrift store or consignment shop.

The first step of any good craft project is to gather your supplies. You will need the ugliest tie you can find, a scissors, a piece of cardboard, Velcro, and either fabric glue or a sewing machine. You can purchase an ugly tie at most thrift stores for less than a dollar, and the rest of the supplies are going to primarily be found on-hand.

Find a piece of cardboard roughly the size of the cell phone that this case will be used for. This will not only make your case sturdier, but it will also make it easier to answer questions like "Have you seen my cell phone this morning?" when you are trying to make this Father's Day gift. Taking the dimensions of the cell phone, cut the cardboard to size or slightly larger (depending on the thickness of the phone).

Cut the tie at approximately 2.5 times the length of the cardboard (allowing some room for a seam and sewing/gluing) and keep the narrow half for a belt loop. Glue or sew the sides of the tie together so that you make a pocket approximately the size of the phone, leaving half the length of the phone on the bottom of the tie as a flap.

In the center of the V at the bottom of the tie, glue a dot of Velcro so that it will close and stay shut. Insert the cardboard into the pocket that you have created for stability. If you want, glue the cardboard to the tie so that it does not come out while the case is in use.

Form a loop with the narrow end of the tie and affix it to the back of the case.

In less than thirty minutes, you have repurposed a tie that should never be worn as a great (and inexpensive) Father's Day gift for that special guy in your life.
