U.K Teenager Hosts Party Posted on Her MySpace Webpage and Parents Return to Find Their Home Trashed
The invitation was to trash her family home at a disco party.
The party was originally intended to be for a few friends and it soon got out of control and turned into a free for all.
More than 200 people came to the party at the house in Woodstone Village, which is located in County Durham, in the Northern part of England. Some of the partiers came from as far away as London, at a distance of 280 miles from Woodstone Village.
Rachael's mother was on holiday away from the home and had left her daughter with a warning not to have any kids or alcohol in the house, while she was away.
Rachael is ashamed to face her parents and is currently hiding from them, but she did manage to write an apology in the local newspaper.
The party got out of hand, and children as young as 11 years old, showed up to attend the house bashing party. She was unable to control the revelers and when she tried to shut the door to keep them out, they came in to the house through the windows instead. A neighbor threatened to call the police and the party dispersed.
The website, My Space, is popular to many users of all ages, and obviously they cannot monitor all the submissions at the site, so they rely on the users themselves to hopefully follow the rules of behavior and postings, but the supposed anonymity of having an online place to post personal information can sometimes prove to be too much of a temptation. The users often forget how easily accessible that information can be at times, and the dangers of posting the wrong information to the wrong people.
Another problem that has become part of the online communities and chat rooms are the children who join and in an effort to belong, present themselves as something they aren't, often posing as older than they really are. More and more parents and teachers have become aware of this problem, when they have come across children they know, posting inappropriately on sites like My Space.
Rachael's mother Elaine, a school teacher, came home with her husband Alan, to find their home trashed, her wedding dress urinated on, and the kids had gotten sick everywhere. Elaine called it "house rape" The damage total came to 20,000 pounds, approximately 40,000 U. S. dollars.
The family is having to stay elsewhere while the house is repaired and cleaned professionally. It may take a month to clean the mess.
