Well, I think we all have to worry a little when it comes to medical insurance. After all, you would have you be a hermit to not be aware of the subject considering the current battle for the Democratic Party's nominee for President. National Health Care has taken center stage.
For years I was an insurance medical underwriter and later a company officer; I know a little about the subject.
Will you be covered for your ulcerative colitis condition? Yes you will be covered. Frankly, you will probably be covered more comprehensively than on a regular health insurance or group insurance policy. Good news, right? Well, yes, with an asterisk.
There are four situations that are challenging when it comes to Federal Insurance.
The most important, in my opinion is if you have a state-sponsored but Federally-backed program. Medical centers such as The Mayo Clinic may not be open to your insurance. Now it is important to know that it is not a situation where no one is allowed. Simply, there may be a problem. Usually, The Mayo Clinic and other major centers, due to demand, have to see some ability to pay. That does not mean they don't make exceptions but on stand, Federal Insurance can present a problem.
A second problem is that of specialized or "cutting-edge" treatment. Federal Health Insurance is going to pay on the conservative side of treatment. This may limit your physician from initiating treatment that is a little "outside the box" when standard treatments haven't worked.
Not very many medical providers accept Federal Insurance. The reason is that they take an incredibly long tome to pay (perhaps 10 months) and they often pay only a percentage of the billed charges.
Federal insurance has a limit to the amount of medication they will pay for. Where this plays a role is when your doctor changes your dosage in the middle of a prescription. If you find yourself without medication it sometimes takes some time to get the Federal contract to pay.
While there are limits to the number of health care providers, there are many pharmacists who are willing to be quite helpful.
I would say that for its faults, for someone who has no way to obtain coverage, this coverage is wonderful and I am glad it is in existence.
As a final note, since I am not using referenced sources, I think it is important to mention that I have experience with Federal Insurance due to my wife's disability.
