Going to the spa when you have Ulcerative Colitis can be a stressful experience if you don't do your homework ahead of time. If you pick the right spa, you will feel like you are in heaven while you are there. Here are a few tips to make your day at the spa more enjoyable.

Call the spa ahead of time to make your appointment. Some spas have a walk-in option. This is not a good idea if you have Ulcerative Colitis because you may show up during a busy time and you may not be able to get the necessary accommodations.

When you call to book your appointment, you should find out what times are usually slow periods for them. This will decrease the chance of you having to wait in line for a bathroom if you have a bout of diarrhea.

At some spas, you can reserve a private room where the treatments are brought to you. This is usually a good idea. Make sure that you book a room with a private bathroom. The treatments in this case may be a little more expensive, but it will be worth it. You will be able to relax more if you are not worried about making it to the bathroom in time.

You should not schedule any treatments that will inhibit your ability to go to the bathroom. This means that wraps, unless they are facial, should be avoided. There is nothing worse than being in a full-body wrap and feeling the urge to go! This will definitely lead to an accident because the wraps cannot be removed quickly enough to accommodate your urgent need.

Mud baths are a good option as long as you make sure that the bathroom is nearby. You should also make sure that it will be easy for you to get out of the tub fast enough to make it to the bathroom.

Massages are always a good choice for someone with Ulcerative Colitis. Make sure that you tell the masseuse that you have Ulcerative Colitis so that she can focus on areas that will help to improve your digestion. You can also tell her about any areas that are sore, such as your legs, because of cramping.

The main thing to remember when you are going to the spa is that your treatments should not be restricting. The more you are able to relax, the better you will feel after your trip to the spa.
