Ulla Popken Fall 2007 Fashion Line

Plus Size Denim
When it comes to Ulla Popken's fall fashion line, there's also not much to report in the world of plus size jeans. Their stretch denim boot cut is probably the best of the bunch, but its lines are uninspired. A denim duster is an interesting idea that Ulla Popken explores this fall, but we can't think what to pair it with that wouldn't make it look like a barn jacket. In other news, Ulla Popken ruins an otherwise stylish denim jacket with pocket medallion embroidery. (Because that's what every plus size woman wants: extra attention on her hips.) The same mistake repeats itself with their detailed denim jacket; they've over-buttoned it to death. Luckily, their classic denim jacket is what you'd expect, though boxy.

Plus Size Jackets
For tall plus size women, Ulla Popken has a gorgeous chrome tapestry duster that would pair beautifully with a dark pair of slacks at the office, or a dark trouser jean for dinner out. There's also a tweed duster which will likely be a timeless piece. For something that will carry you through fall into the winter holidays, consider the velvet jacket with the banded empire waist. It's less tailored than a similar velvet jacket offered by Lane Bryant last fall, but the colors are lovely autumn shades. If you prefer the tailored look (and you should), Ulla Popken does have a great swirl velvet jacket that ties at the waist for a cinched fit. It looks great over jeans, skirts and dress pants.

Plus Size Tops
One lovely Ulla Popken blouse in their fall lineup is the twist v-neck stretch blouse with diagonal stripes and an empire waist. This is a slimming silhouette.

Plus Size Outerwear
The star of Ulla Popken's plus size fall fashion line is the Czarina Shearling Coat. It's classy in cognac, and even though the fabrics are all man-made, it gives the luxurious appearance of suede and fur for a fraction of the price. Don't be put off by the floral embroidery; it provides visual interest and a feminine touch. Ulla Popken has also taken advantage of the popularity of animal prints this season to make a faux leopard fur coat. The pattern is smaller than one would expect, which tones down the accent piece so that it will coordinate with almost every solid you own. For $99 it's actually a steal.

Plus Size Shoes
You wouldn't know it from looking at the catalog, but Ulla Popken also offers a wide calf boot. These swashbuckling slip-on riding boots have calf measurements ranging from 16-19 inches and with a one inch heel, they'll even be appropriate for snowy weather.

Plus Size Sleepwear
When snuggling up with a cup of tea by the fire on those cool autumn evenings, you'll look adorable in Ulla Popken's relaxed feminine lounge tee and matching pants. The lace is a nice touch, and it comes not just in gray but also wisteria and rose.

Overall
Ulla Popken's style remains a bit more droopy and drapey than is ideal for the plus size figure. However, the renewed interest in empire waistlines and transitional pieces is an encouraging sign, and we're glad to see the tall boot gracing the pages of plus size fashion catalogs like this one.
