When beginning any diet, the following tips in addition to those above should be adhered to for successful weight loss. Weight loss that is not permanent is not good, because usually, when the weight comes back, it brings more weight with it. Constant dieting is not possible, so remember to try to find a diet that you CAN live with for the rest of your life. More than fad or other diets, what truly leads to actual permanent weight loss is dietary and lifestyle change.
Dietary Tips For Permanent, Healthy Weight Loss.
Drink enough water- Drinking a minimum of eight 8 ounce glasses of water is critical for more than one reason. Many times the body reads dehydration as hunger, and in this way an individual will know it is real hunger.
Drink before eating- Drink a full 8 ounces of water before eating each meal. The reason for this is to help to fill you up. If the body is in need of water, at times it will act by telling the body it is still hungry. Also, drink a glass of water before bed. Before eating anything because of hunger, between meals especially, drinking water may alleviate hunger, because the body may actually be thirsty.
Always read labels- Read all labels for any foods or drinks before ingesting, pay particular attention to number of servings in container. Even if the individual thinks the servings per container is known. Many times dietary information can be misleading to consumers on calorie and fat content.
Minimize fat grams- Always try to eat less than 25 grams of fat (not just saturated fats, but all fats) per day. Eating less fats as well as calories is a good way to lose weight.
Eat more vegetables- When trying to lose or maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle, always eat a minimum of 8 servings of vegetables and fruits. Be careful for starches such as potatoes and corns or other starchy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables should actually be more like 12+ servings of vegetables and fruits. Most vegetables and many fruits can be eaten in unlimited amounts when eating a healthy diet and to facilitate weight loss. Vegetables and fruit should be the largest food group eaten every day.
Never get hungry- An individual trying to lose weight should never let themselves become hungry. Hunger leads to eating unhealthy foods and snacks and over eating. Avoid becoming very hungry. Eat many healthy snacks between meals such as fruits, vegetables and nuts and seeds.
Learn about portions- In the United States and many other countries, portion sizes are confusing because bigger is better seems to be what sells. Consumers and the population in general do not understand what is a normal portion. A normal portion of meat, or chicken should fit in the palm of the individual eating it, that is a two year old's palm (without the fingers) is not the same size as an adult. A normal size portion of other foods can be learned by researching in books or even on line at diet sites which explain this. Diabetics should be very aware of this.
Always trim meats- Before cooking, always trim any fat that can be seen off of meat. This includes chicken, which should be boneless and skinless breast meat only when trying to lose weight.
Burn more than intake-Everyday individuals should be sure that more calories are used or burned off than are taken in. In this way, those individuals who are attempting to lose weight, can be sure that too much is not eaten.
Exercise is good- Exercise everyday. Just by parking at the end of the lot, instead of by the door, walking into the store or the work place, can be exercise. Other than walking farther, individuals can go to the gym for 1 hour three days per week or walk for 1 mile extra per day, take the stairs instead of using the elevator or escalator (at least in the correct direction) or while sitting in that office chair, do leg lifts under the desk. Exercise does not have to be conventional exercise or require equipment or a gym membership to get enough exercise. Housework burns off many calories and can be modified to burn maximum calories as well. Even playing with the baby can work.
Get active- Spend more time outdoors or doing more physical things. Playing tag with the kids at the park or even going to the zoo, or even just taking a walk after dinner is more active than most Americans are. Other countries have this new problem as well because of the inception of computers, video games and dvds and televisions as well as other indoor activities.
Eat less sugar- Sugar and carbohydrates can help individuals lose weight as well as deter diabetes and other diseases related to being over weight.
Eat fresh foods- Processed foods are not good for people. The more processed or manufactured foods are, the less nutrients they contain. Since fast foods have become the norm, many individuals do not get the nutrients needed by the body to function. Take the time to cook meals and buy foods as fresh as possible. It is possible to be obese and be malnourished.
Simple is best- If an individual's grandparents or great grandparents would not have recognized it, they should not eat it. In many ways, foods have become less healthy. In the recent past, heart disease and high blood pressure and diabetes have become more common and the reasons for this increase in disease are related to the foods which people now eat. The more nitrates and additives and preservatives in foods available today contribute to cancer as well as the other diseases listed. These additives are not healthy and should be avoided. Eating fresh vegetables, meats, whole grain breads, fruits and dairy products which are organic are the best choice.
Snacks are great- Eating snacks to stave off hunger is essential. When someone becomes very hungry, they are more likely to eat the wrong foods. Vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, or other healthy snacks are great for snacks, as well as nori, (sea weed wraps for sushi).
With a bit of planning and changes in lifestyle, weight loss can be a much easier task. Healthy diet is essential to everyone to enable the body to function properly and maintain health and avoid disease. Malnutrition is a major problem in many countries. Obesity is a major problem in these countries and many times the individuals who are malnourished are not the poor or starving as much as the obese and over weight. The number of processed foods and beverages consumed by individuals in these countries are contributing to this problem, as well as disease which could be avoided by changing the diet and lifestyle of the individuals of the country. Changing a person's lifestyle can seem like a huge task, however, once started, these changes become easier and begin to change how the individual feels.
