Ann Grant
Parents have become aware of the many potential benefits that yoga can have on their children, they are however unaware that an unbalanced diet can serve to create health problems that not even yoga can heal. In these times when stress is considered a part of life and working late is a requirement for success, many parents do not have the time to ensure that their children who practice yoga have a balanced diet. Instead they purchase fast food like pizza and burgers and hope that the children's yoga will help to alleviate any potential health problems, nothing could be farther from the truth.

Diet and yoga are not mutually exclusive properties, especially in young children. Yoga possesses various health benefits when the child practices it properly but if the child eats unhealthy foods constantly, then it defeats the major purpose of practicing yoga. Many of the poses seen in children's yoga are not only purely physical but help to increase cardiovascular health and spiritual well being and awareness. Many people have heard the phrase "you are what you eat" but most of them are blissfully unaware how precise this statement really is.

The food that children who practice yoga has an immense potential to shape their habits and ideologies, this potential is more potent than many parents are aware of. The spiritual connectivity that children's yoga is supposed to foster will be disrupted. The child will also become agitated, moody, depressed, excited and slow depending on the amount of sugar, starch and saturated fats consumed.

Many teachers of child yoga advocate a diet high in green leafy vegetables, fruits and fiber and low in starch, refined sugar and carbohydrates. Many of these healthy foods help children who practice yoga to ensure a healthy body and mind. These foods work to purge toxins from the body of the young child and work in harmony with yoga to ensure body functions are working optimally.
Yoga is a powerful tool for kids to ensure a healthy and active lifestyle, it has been shown that many children who practice yoga have been shown to be healthier, more active and have a sound awareness of their spiritual being when compared to children who do not practice yoga. Parents need to be aware though that practicing yoga. Parents need to be aware however that yoga is not the end all and be all, a proper diet is essential in ensuring that children get the maximum benefits from practicing yoga.
