Unboxing the MP4 Watch II from Brando

A Product Review

Simply put, the MP4 Watch is a geek's dream come to life. For all of us who have dreamed of watching television from our wrist televisions, the MP4 watch from Brando is the real deal.

Unboxing the MP4 watch was very cool as there was a box within a box. That box was like a miniature storage container, with the watch in a special holder and the accessories on the bottom. The accessories include the headphones, USB to headphone charger/sync cord, and USB AC Adapter.

Oddly enough, the watch itself has a short USB cable on the wrist band that fits very conveniently next to the buckle. Of course, that cord is only about an inch long. If you want something longer, the other USB cord is at least a foot or more. I believe the watch was already charged by the time I plugged it in, and I was able to get to work on it right away.

The menu appeared at the touch of the "M" button, and the arrows down below helped me to navigate. Unfortunately, this menu only allows for a 30 second interval before it kicks you back out into whatever you were in before. However, the menu is pretty user friendly, and I was watching the preloaded Warhammer video before I knew it.

I was surprised that the MP4 watch had any external sound. Generally players like these are too small to have any speakers, but this had a tiny one on each side. The sound quality was simply amazing, and these things can produce a level of loudness that is simply unparalleled.

I was also surprised that it came with a voice recorder. It took a while for me to figure out how to use it, but it really is a one-button job. Playback sounded a lot better than what I thought it was going to, even without headphones.

If any watch had either of those above features, I would consider that a marvel. However, the MP4 watch has all of these plus an FM tuner, photo viewer, and a text viewer.

As for syncing with the MP4 watch, I found that it didn't really work with iTunes, but seemed to be okay with Windows Media Player provided that the tunes or videos were in the proper format. Fortunately, whoever made the MP4 player was able to foresee this problem and created a mini CD with programs designed to convert photos and videos. The photo file was pretty simple to use, but you have to follow the instructions verbatim in order to get the desired results.

All in all, the MP4 Watch is definitely worth your money, and can be found at the Brando website. It is a bargain at $92.00 for the 2GB model, and $118.00 for the 4GB model.
