Unbroken - Rhyming Courses on Wild Young Horses
A Pasture Filled with Pals Can Right All Sorts of Wrongs
"The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears."
Arabian Proverb
(I actually penned these lines some time ago, but I am posting them now to honor my friend and pasture pal Deb on her birthday. Today, she rode her young horse, AJ, for the very first time! Someday soon, I hope to ride his brother. They were born within weeks of one another, and we have treasured each day, as we have watched them grow up together.)
Unbroken
They run as one and jump the gun
From crack of dawn to setting sun.
A branch will crack; sound the attack;
And off they fly, in fondest fun.
A closer crowd, I never saw,
This wild bunch, quick on the draw.
They turn en masse and carry on
Then gallop off, till they're long gone.
Then, spent, they fall upon the dust,
Abandoning their wanderlust,
Each resting on another's mane,
Until they rise to race again.
They run as one and jump the gun
From crack of dawn to setting sun.
A branch will crack; sound the attack;
And off they fly, in fondest fun.
Few kindred spirits, they'll permit
Their company to benefit.
We scale the fence and take a stroll
To witness strength under control.
Another year, and they will train
To wear a saddle, bridle, rein.
Their spirits strong will long remain
To earn the honors they'll attain.
Till then, we run and jump the gun
From crack of dawn to setting sun.
A branch will crack; sound the attack;
And off we fly, in fondest fun.
