Although the single-player experience will probably thrill players once again, it is the multiplayer that will probably end up getting the most playing time. At first, many fans of the original Playstation 3 game didn't want multiplayer in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves as the single-player experience was more than enough to satisfy them. Not to mention that they fear that the main campaign may be compromised for extraneous modes.
Fortunately, developer Naughty Dog has shown that this isn't the case so far. Not only will the story in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves be as epic and intense as before but the multiplayer modes are actually turning out to be a great experience. In addition to a frantic ten-player competitive mode, players can partake in a three-man co-operative mode with its own separate story from the single-player experience.
Furthermore, Naughty Dog recently revealed another co-operative mode. Gold Rush is similar to the Horde mode found in Gears of Wars 2. Basically, you and two other teammates are confined to a single level. The enemies will attack you in waves, meaning that a new group won't appear until the area has been cleared out of the previous group of enemies.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves also adds an interesting twist: for every round, a treasure will randomly appear on the level. Your job as a team in addition to killing the entire enemy group on the map is to bring the treasure back to a treasure chest. Once you done beating one round, the next one will start soon afterwards. The enemy will get progressive tougher the deeper you go into the Gold Rush mode of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. You can expect this mode to add plenty of playing time to an already content-rich package.
With so much contented packed into a single Blu-Ray disc, Sony hopes that the sequel will outperform the first game on the marketplace. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune sold moderately well but not that great. Hopefully with modes like Gold Rush, more and more prospective buyers will be more willing the purchase the sequel when it comes out on October 13th exclusively for the Playstation 3.
