Though the establishment is still too new to even have a sign, they are easy to find on Summer Street in Barre at the Quabbin Plaza. Parking is in front of the building or over in the large plaza lot. If you park in the big lot, watch out for cars coming through the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru as you cross over.
The first impression of Uncle Sam's was pleasant. It was cool, comfortable and very clean. There were also some attractive decorations to match the tiled floors, unusual for a "pizza joint". The menu board overhead was easy to read and the prices were clearly marked. It didn't take us long to decide what to order.
Despite the six other people also waiting in line, it didn't take long to order. The gentleman behind the counter kept things moving while still being polite and friendly.
We chose to order cold grinders, but the menu at Uncle Sam's also includes pizza, calzone, spaghetti, salads and side orders such as french fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks and buffalo wings.
After placing our order we retreated to a clean, simple table with padded chairs and enjoyed our drinks. The sandwiches were ready fast and before we knew it we were eating. The meat, cheese, veggies and bread was all very fresh. My husband was delighted that "light oil and vinegar" actually resulted in a light amount. My daughter Renata couldn't have been happier with her turkey grinder.
While we ate there was a steady amount of traffic in and out of the restaurant. Some stayed to eat lunch and others picked up pizzas for take-out. The staff was easily able to manage all the customers in a friendly manner.
Another wonderful surprise was the bill - it was very affordable. Uncle Sam's has regular specials including a $1.99 Sub of the Month, a $2.99 small cheese pizza for lunch and two large pizzas for only $10.99 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
With great specials, good food and fast, friendly service, this business should do well in Barre. Their hours are easy to remember - everyday from 11:00am - 10:00pm. They even offer free local delivery! Uncle Sam's Pizza in Barre can be reached at 978-355-4333.
