Uncommon Tips for Keeping a Kid's Room Clean

Brandy Madison
For many parents, a messy kid's room is the very bane of their existence. Kids are notorious for possessing the ability to destroy a clean room in a matter of an hour or two. We're not just talking about a few toys tossed around the floor, either. We're talking about every inch of floor being cluttered with every toy the child owns. Throw in dirty clothes strewn all over the floor, bedding that has been ripped off of beds in order to build makeshift clubhouses, paper scraps, crayons, shoes and anything else that just hours before was neatly tucked away in its own place amongst shelves and in drawers.

It's easy to understand then, why so many parents feel extremely frustrated and fed up with the messy kids' rooms in their own homes. Cleaning a kid's room sufficiently once it has reached a certain level of disarray can be just too big of a task for the kids who actually created the mess. Inevitably, many parents must make the dreaded trek into their kids' rooms to spend hours putting everything away. Knowing all the while that in a few hours, or if they're lucky, a few days, the room will be torn to shreds once again.

Many parents have tried the usual methods of containing the clutter in kids' rooms, while still finding that these methods just don't do the job for any length of time. If you've tried everything you can think of to keep your kid's messy room clean without success, here are a few less common ideas for keeping a kid's room clean.

Get rid of as much as you can - It's not uncommon for kids to have way more stuff than they need or even use. Think of how much easier the job of keeping a kid's room would be if there was only half as much stuff for them to throw around the room.

Try hanging shoe pockets for the small stuff - We all know that the worst part of the mess in a kid's room is usually the small stuff. Hot Wheels, Polly Pockets, and that bag of pirate's treasure you picked up the last time you went to Disneyland, they all have a way of finding a place on the floor. Hanging shoe pockets, designed to hang on the back of a door, can be the best way to keep your kid's room clean.

Consider putting away your child's bed frame - It may sound extreme, but for parents who think they might curl up and go insane if they have to clean out under their child's bed even one more time, this may go a long way in keeping their kid's room clean. Removing the bed frame, so that the box spring and mattress sit directly on the floor, eliminates the space in a kid's room that often serves as a location to shove everything when a kid is asked to clean up. If there's no under the bed, there's no mess under the bed.
Keeping a kid's room clean will likely never be enjoyable or simple, but these tips can definitely help!

Great tips! One good thing about getting rid of the bed frame.. won't have to worry about them falling as far off the bed if they are playing on it!
