Uncommon Weight Loss Tips

It takes both diet and exercise to do the trick, but all that change at once can be overwhelming. Concentrate first on the exercise end of it, and that will spill over into your eating habits. When tempted to overeat don't think " if I eat too much I won't lose weight. Think instead "if I eat too much it will derail my exercise goals and thus my weight loss goals". Exercise itself then *becomes* the distraction from food. Nothing supresses the appetite like the high you get from exercise. I have found this to be far more effective than trying to distract myself with a book within steps of the kitchen.

Some say morning exercise is more effective. The bottom line is that whatever time of the day you are most likely to stick with is the best time of the day to exercise. There are advantages to morning exercise, however. First thing in the morning you won't have to skip exercising due to having run out of time. You will also have the benefit of the exercise high for the rest of the day, influencing your eating choices.

Rather than stressing over eating just the right thing, cut portions of what you currently eat in half or by a third.

Be a picky eater. In other words, life is too short to eat bad food. If you do indulge, and you will because you are human, be sure it's something scrumptious that you love. Don't waste calories on mediocre food. For example, better to have a small sliver of that cheesecake you really want than the stale donut you don't want all that bad but it's there. Protein is important. Think what you want about low carb diets, but the truth is one of their strengths is that they made people acknowledge, after worshiping carbs for quite some time, that protein has a place in the diet. It helps you feel full, which helps you know when to stop eating. It is easy to tear through quite a bit of carby food before one finally feels full. By making sure to include some protein with your meal or snack, it is easier to keep portions under control.

The type of carbs selected are important. Go for whole grain instead of processed white flour products. These also help you feel more full. Some say "there are no bad foods". But there are better and worse foods. All other things being equal, whole grains are preferable to processed grains.

So what type of exercise is best? Aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio, four days a week. How do you find the right intensity? If you can sing as you are exercising, you're not working out hard enough. If you can't complete a sentence without gasping, you're working too hard. You want to find that happy medium.

Now here's a catch: daily activities like lawn work or other physical things you're already doing don't count as exercise. Why? Because if they were sufficient, you would already be at a weight you were happy with and finding it easier to eat right. They are good for your physical condition, but they won't help you lose weight

because *your body is already used to them*. Weight training is also excellent because this supports your weight loss efforts, helping you eat better, and you are likely to see results from toning in a short amount of time.

Try these techniques in your weight loss efforts, and do what works for you, which might run counter to what the experts say. Your results are all that matters.
