Uncommonly Cute, Pretty and Sexy Costume Ideas for Women

Skip the Cliches This Year, and Try One of These Ideas!

Are you tired of seeing the same old costume ideas for women, and the same costumes every year? Want to be something a little less common this year? Whether you're looking for something cute and fun, pretty and elegant, or flirty and sexy, here are some great ideas that you won't see just anywhere!

1.) Dancer: There are many different kinds of dancers, and their outfits, makeup, and hair always look so lovely. Plus you don't see many people dressing up as dancers.
a) Belly Dancer: Belly dancers are known for their beautiful and exotic costumes, which include lots of fun accessories such as coin belts, hair falls, ornate jewelry, and more. Do an image search for belly dancers to get an idea of what you would want to include in your outfit, and shop online for the various accessories. Try to shop at places that have authentic belly dancer clothing so your outfit does not come off as the cheap, I Dream of Jeannie type of thing. Once you have your outfit together, add some dramatic makeup, practice your hip rolls, and you're good to go!
b) Ballet Dancer: If you're looking for something a little more modest and understated, you could go as a ballet dancer. Get a pink leotard, a tutu, white tights, and you could even get pointe shoes if you think you can handle it! (Then again, point shoes are difficult to use, you may want to just use some ballet flats.) Put your hair up in a bun and add some soft, pretty makeup. There, you have an elegant and beautiful costume!
c) Salsa/Latin Dancer: If you're looking for something a little spicy, try going as a salsa dancer. Get a clingy dress with a flowy skirt that can swish around when you move in black or red, and some sexy high heels. Add some dark makeup, and a little bit of jewelry if you'd like. You can also do an image search of salsa dancers to get more ideas for your costume.
d) Hip Hop Dancer: This is a great costume for those who don't want to spend all night in heels or uncomfortable clothes. Nice and comfy, this outfit still manages to be cute and sassy as well. Simply start with a sports bra, tank top, or small, tight t-shirt. Then add a pair of hip hugging, wide leg athletic pants. Then finish the outfit off with a pair of cute sneakers and voila, you're a hip hop dancer. Learn some moves so you can impress people at the parties you go to!

2.) Movie Characters: Dressing up as a movie character is fun and usually pretty easy. Try some of these for something a little different and fun.
a) Christina Ricci in Black Snake Moan: If you want to look sexy and in-your-face, there's no better outfit than Rae's. And it's easy and cheap to put together! Start with a pair of cut-off shorts (you can even make them yourself out of old jeans). Then get a gray t-shirt, and cut it off at the bottom as well as around the neckline to get that sultry, devil-may-care look. Put a pink or purple bra under the shirt so that the strap shows. Finally, add some brown cowboy-ish boots to finish out the outfit. If you want to go a little farther, you can even try to recreate the image on her shirt in the movie with a transfer image, but good luck finding that!
b) Ellen Page in Juno: This is a fun one, as it combines her outfit with her pregnant belly. So first you want to buy or make a pregnant belly, which is pretty easy to do with things lying around the house. Then you can do her outfit on the cover--orange and white striped shirt with a jacket over top, jeans with a brown skirt over top, and some Converse-type sneakers with orange laces. If that outfit doesn't do it for you, watch the movie to get other ideas. Just make sure to include the pregnant belly, because that's the fun part!
c) Renee Zelwegger in Empire Records: Everyone loves Empire Records; it's such a fun movie and it's practically a cult classic. If you want to be really scandalous this Halloween, go as Gina--in the scene where she wears the orange Music Town apron! Get an orange apron (which should be pretty cheap), then use a transfer pen or something like that to put Music Town on the apron. (I don't remember what her underwear looked like so you may want to watch the movie if you want to be that specific.) Add the little black boots she wears in the movie as the finishing touch. Now you just have to make sure you stay warm!
d) Diane Keaton in Annie Hall: What a great movie! And Annie herself is just about as cute as can be. If you're looking for a fun, smart, costume that'll keep you warm and doesn't show too much skin, Annie's outfit in the first scene she's hanging out with Woody Allen is so cute and easy to do. All you need is a long sleeved button up white collared shirt, a dark vest, a spotted tie, and loose khaki pants. If you want to go farther with it, you can even add the black hat she wears in the earlier scenes. Now that's an uncommon and super cute outfit!

3.) Scary/Creepy Costumes: If you want to do something more in the scary spirit of the holiday, you can go as something creepy. But don't be cliche and go as one of the old standbys: sexy vampire, sexy devil, etc. And while you don't want to be cliche and go as a school girl either, you can always combine one of those cliches with a new twist: zombie/dead.
a) Zombie/Dead Prom Queen: Get a fancy prom dress, then destroy it a little. Add rips, tears, blood stains, etc. Do your hair, makeup and jewelry as though you were prom queen, but then whiten your face with powder and add blood, black circles around your eyes, or anything else to make you look dead. You can be the prom queen that got in a horrible accident right after prom and now is back to haunt the school!
b) Zombie/Dead School Girl: Let's face it, school girl outfits are just plain sexy. But they are also so common they've become boring. But if you love the look, spice it up with a bit of death. Start out with the basic school girl look: collared shirt, sweater, pleated skirt, knee socks, etc. And then, like above, add the rips, blood, destruction, white face, black eyes, etc. Now you're a zombie school girl! Sexy and scary.
c) Zombie/Dead Little Girl: Little kids are always the creepiest characters in horror movies. So utilize this by dressing up as a little girl, with pigtails, a skirt, a Hannah Montanna shirt (or something similar), then add the stuff mentioned above. Accessorize with a teddy bear or some kind of stuffed animal to really pull the outfit together. You'll definitely creep some people out this way.

4.) Vintage: Vintage outfits are fun to research and put together. Shopping on Etsy (www.etsy.com) is a great way to find vintage clothing, or you can check out vintage clothing stores near you.
a) 50s Housewife: This is a fun and ironic costume. Start out with a vintage 50s dress, then add a cute vintage apron. Get some simple high heels that match (remember, 50s housewives wore high heels even to vacuum!), and add a pearl necklace. If you can, wear your hair curled and cropped tight to your head. Accessorizing with an oven mitt, a tray of cupcakes, an antique vacuum, or something of the sort to really make the whole thing pop.
b) Rollerskating Waitress: Remember back in the day, when rollerskating waitresses were common at drive in restaurants? It's such a fun, cute look, and it needs to be brought back! Start off with a cute little dress--ideally in pink--that is short sleeved with a skirt that comes above the knee. A collar and buttons are a nice touch too. Tie a small apron around your waist, and add a cute little paper hat sitting jauntily on one side of your head. And, of course you need the roller skates (preferably in white) to really finish off the look. Accessorize with a metal tray. Chewing pink bubblegum is also a cute touch. Just be careful with this one--if you plan on getting drunk, make sure you either take the skates off or sit down or you could end up in a messy pile!
c) 40s Pin-up: 40s pin up girls were all about curves and glamor. Unlike glamor models of today, pin-ups of the 40s knew how to be elegant while being sexy, and how to do it without any sleaze at all. You have a lot of choices when it comes to dressing like a 40s pin-up, so do some research to find some outfit ideas you like. Just keep in mind: elaborate hairdos, high heels, and sexiness without sleaziness. Try searching Etsy for clothing and accessories.
d) Late 60s/Early 70s Hippie Bohemian: Sure, the hippie look is overdone. But the version that is overdone is the super silly, over the top look with the little circle colored glasses, and the crazy wide bell bottoms, and the "peace, man" attitude. So why not make it more accurate? Hippie/bohemian fashion was/is all about flowiness, layers, and complexity. Start with a vintage hippie sundress (again, search online for these; there's more around then you think). Then add some complexity--tie a pretty scarf or braided belt around your waist, add a bunch of necklaces, some bangle bracelets on both arms, rings, and earrings. Or you can grab a peasant skirt, and wear it under another, shorter skirt to create that loose, layered look. Wear your hair long and loose and messy even. Add a headband, bandanna, or flower to your hair--nothing to fake or outlandish, though. Keep your makeup really simple, and finish off the outfit with a pair of brown sandals--or go barefoot.

So stand out this year. Be different, be sexy, be cute, be beautiful. Most of all, have fun with it and enjoy yourself. Feel good about yourself whatever you decide to wear, go all out, and celebrate Halloween in style!
