Everyone knows that doing the same workout over and over can be a little monotonous and quite boring. The thing about exercising and staying fit is it's great fun if you're a fitness buff and love nothing more than a good run to start your day. (Boy do I envy those people.) But what about the rest of us who love the benefits of exercise but hate the boring task of doing the same thing day after day and week after week? We need a little something extra to give us that boost of motivation to stay on the fitness bandwagon since most of us are just looking for a reason to fall off! Nothing can add a little spark to your exercise program better than adding unconventional exercise. A new challenge can help you reaffirm your fitness goals, and you can achieve this by learning new unconventional exercises.
Here is a list of activities that are fun and great for fitness:

Wall Climbing. This is similar to rock climbing. Many communities have a fitness center with climbing walls. This exercise can prove to be fun and challenging. Climbing is great for your upper body, as well as your abs and legs. .

Dancing. Whether you take ballet classes or just put on some CDs in the privacy of your living room, dancing is a fun unconventional exercise. You can get a great aerobic workout whether you're 12 or 82. If you go for the exotic, try a belly dancing class. You'll get a great ab workout!

Hydro training. Try water sports like pool volleyball or water aerobics for a new twist to your workouts. Exercising in the water is great for aerobic exercise and resistance training.

Medicine Ball. Working out with one of these weighted balls will help you with your flexibility and range of motion. You can most likely find a video or DVD that can help you learn the best way to do this unconventional exercise. This resistance training is used by everyone from Olympic athletes to rehabilitation clinics.

Unconventional exercises can add a lot of fun to your workout while keeping you fit and trim. The key is to think outside of the box. Make a list of things you do that require a significant amount of physical activity. Activities as simple as gardening or mowing the lawn can be a good workout plus your yard will thank you for it.

Before you begin a new unconventional exercise, be sure you know how to perform it properly to avoid injury. Remember to always check with your doctor before beginning any new exercise program.
