Unconventional Mother's Day Celebrations in Dallas, Texas

Drew Taylor
Dallas offers plenty of brunch options for Mother's Day, but there are also unconventional activities to suit mom's unique personality. This weekend, treat Mom to a good workout, medieval feast, roller derby bout, or dirty diamond.

Baby Boot Camp Class
Mom does not have to hire a babysitter to participate in this stroller-fitness program. Certified trainers make mom sweat while her stroller-age child helps her exercise. Melanie Fox is leading a class on May 7 at the Galleria Mall located at 13350 Dallas Parkway.

The class meets in front of Nordstrom's and lasts from 9 to 10 a.m. Visit babybootcamp.com for complete details and to sign up for a free introductory class.

Lone Star Park Diamond Dig
Celebrate Mother's Day at Lonestar Park located at 2200 North Belt Line Road in Grand Prairie and mom may go home with a new diamond. The first 500 women age 21 and older through the Grandstand admission gates on May 8 will have the opportunity to participate in the Mother's Day Diamond Dig and win a diamond valued at $2,500.

The dig will take place on the main track after the final race of the day.

General admission is $5 per person and children 3 and younger are free. Visit lonestarpark.com for complete details.

Medieval Times
Treat your mom like royalty with a fork-free, four-course feast at Medieval Times' Dallas castle located at 2021 North Stemmons. Enjoy dinner and a show as knights compete on horseback. On May 6 through 8, mom gets in free with one full-priced adult admission.

Adult admission is $58.95 and $35.95 for children 12 and younger. There are two show times available on Friday night. Saturday features three show times and there is one performance on Sunday. Visit medievaltimes.com for details.

Assassination City Roller Derby Presents "Heads will Roll"
Treat mom to a roller derby bout at the Fair Park Coliseum located at 1438 Coliseum Drive on May 7. The Bombshell Brigade will battle La Revolucion and the Deadly Kennedys will face the Lone Star Assassins. The doors open at 5 p.m. and the bout begins at 6 p.m.

The Gorehounds, The Cramps tribute band, will play during the half-time show.

Advance tickets cost $18 for floor/VIP seating and $15 for stadium seating. Same-day tickets are also available at the Fair Park Box Office after 3 p.m. for $20 for floor/VIP seating and $17 for stadium seating.

Visit acderby.com for a list of ticket sellers, parking information and complete event details.
