Uncovering the Essence of You

A.M. Morgan
Who are you without your college degrees?
Do you still consider yourself interesting?

If you and luck suddenly run out of time
Would you still thank God for your blessings?

If all of your material things suddenly didn't mean a thing
Could you still define your self worth?

If you take off your makeup
Do you still love the person in the mirror despite the presence of flaws?

If the love you've found is lost tomorrow
Could you still remain positive despite your pain and sorrow?

If your friend becomes your enemy
Could you escape bitterness and seek no revenge?

If your beauty faded and you were no longer the center of attention
Would you place your vanity aside and let someone else's light shine?

If you are no longer the best player and it's time to retire from the game
Would you take a bow gracefully and help others to succeed?

It's time to measure your greatness from within
For outward affirmations you cannot depend

Don't place all your faith in your status or accomplishments
But do your best to aspire and achieve

If you truly want to uncover the essence of you
Take off your mask and welcome the illumination of your naked self

I was totally expecting something else. This is wonderfully insightful. Oh how the answers to these questions change as we age. Excellent!

This is great food for thought. I have learned the answers to many of these questions with the passage of time and the experience that life brings.

This was beautiful and hopefully will inspire others to look at themselves.
