Under the Rock Knowledge Quest: Who is Sofia Vergara?

My quest is to know more about what the world deems popular. How to do this? If you live under a rock like me, raid the trends section of yahoo (or the search engine of your choice). Trending in spot number four tonight is Sofia Vergara, a name that doesn't even begin to ring a bell anywhere in the same hemisphere of my brain. Although I'm sure at least eighty percent of the U.S. population is probably burning me in effigy for the last sentence. However, if you already know who she is, you can stop reading.

So, The Basics

Sofia Vergara is an actress. She has a charming, heavy Spanish accent even after having been in the USA for more than a decade. She admitted on the Jimmy Kimmel show she keeps it for "the money". According to imdb.com she "ranked #39 on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2008 list." Hence she's exceptionally beautiful. Instead, of only having that crazy, plastic look most of the acting world manages. Although, she comes across as quite natural with a solid earthiness to her persona.

She acted in Lords of Dogtown, Four Brothers, and (drum roll please) The Smurfs. Television work includes Dirty Sexy Money, The Knights of Prosperity, and Modern Family. It is her work in Modern Family that has given her an Emmy nomination. Modern Family is an ABC comedy that follows three families and their funny hahaness through life.

Why the trending?

Perhaps she's trending because she's been nominated for an Emmy for supporting actress in a comedy show (Modern Family). Although, she's in the running for the Emmy with Jane Lynch from Glee. Even under my rock Glee has been mentioned, although I've not seen more than about an episode and half of it. Or maybe it's because she's thirty-nine and a "sex symbol". Which I admit is very cool considering Hollywood would have you believe you are going to die on the dawn after you turn twenty-eight.
