Undercover Investigation of Butterball Uncovers Inhumane Treatment

RK
Peta did an undercover investigation of the Butterball slaughter house in Ozark, Arkansas. The tortuous treatment of the turkeys at Butterball is horrifying. The blatant abuse the slaughter house workers subjected the poor turkeys to, brings tears to your eyes. It is hard to imagine that such cruelty can exist in this world, but it does. To watch the undercover video for a first hand view of the abuse, go here.

The needless cruelty of the Butterball workers is sickening. Workers seriously abuse and kill the animals in the name of fun. Read below for a list of abuse that the Peta undercover investigator documented.

A Butterball employee stomped on a turkey's head over and over until her head exploded.

A Butterball employee repeatedly punched a turkey in the neck until he paralyzed the bird.

A worker slammed a turkey against a handrail with such force that her spine popped out.

For fun, a worker stuck his finger inside a turkey's cloaca. (A cloaca is a turkey's equivalent to a vagina.)

Workers threw birds against concrete walls.

Workers violently and repetitively threw birds into the shackles.

One worker laughed as he kicked a bird in the head.

A worker laughed as he broke a turkey's neck.

Butterball employees threw dead turkey's at live turkey's.

When a turkey's leg was stuck in a cage, a worker laughed after he ripped the bird's leg off.

Two workers kicked and punched a turkey in an attempt to decapitate her.

Turkeys were thrown into a pool of water on the ground and kicked and later killed.

Even without the needless and sadistic acts of Butterballs' employee's, Butterball uses inhumane methods to slaughter the turkey's. In the United States, birds are not protected by the federal government. Without any protection, companies like Butterball get away with using cruel slaughter methods. It is up to the public to stand up and say they will not tolerate it.

The slaughter method that Butterball uses goes as follows:

Turkeys are hung by their feet.
Electrocuted in water which leaves them conscious but paralyzed.
Their throats are slit.
They are dipped in scalding water to remove their feathers.

To help stop the cruel slaughter practices to turkeys, go here to send an automated letter your congress person. Laws need to be passed to protect birds, so that this insanity can be stopped.

To ensure that your meat does not come from inhumane slaughter houses, buy meat that is "Certified Humane Raised & Handled". To learn more about "Certified Humane Raised & Handled" products and where to get them, go to certifiedhumane.org/

What is wrong with people? I can understand not wanting to have an animal in your house or to be responsible for it but dear heavens, behavior like this transcends cruelty. Butterball can whistle Dixie for money.

Butterball will never get a dollar out of me again.

I will never again buy a butterball turkey. In fact, they don't deserve capitization in my writting! I know a turkey is nothing more than a stupid animal, but they are a living creature and ALL living creatures came from God, and deserve to be treated humanely. Bobbie, you did an excelent job on this article, great work! BTW... I just signed the petition!

This is inhumane! I followed the links and submitted to the congressman that this has to be stopped.

I'm not terribly surprised, since there aren't stringent guidelines for the treatment of poultry.
