Undergraduate courses in management can provide a solid foundation for an individual to thrive in a corporate environment or build a successful venture. While some courses, such as finance, cover a broad spectrum, many give students an in depth look into the world of management.

Human Resource Management

A course in human resource management examines all essential aspects of the employee and employer relationship, including policies, procedures and practices. Legal aspects of workplace relations, equal employment opportunity, recruitment and selection, training and development, performance appraisals, compensation and benefits also are examined.

International Management

An undergraduate course in international management is an important management course to take as most companies have some global presence. An understanding of conducting business abroad and the technological, economic, and political challenges that managers face, particularly in the developing world, in doing so. A basic overview on how multinational corporations operate, tax implications and the benefits and drawbacks of doing business abroad are examined.

Organizational Behavior

Most management majors, regardless of their concentration, will take a course in organizational behaviors. This course reveals the phenomenon of "group think" and how groups influence behaviors and opinions. It also will show ways to motivate groups and provide insight into how to effectively lead a group. Organizational design and how to manage and survive organizational change is also highlighted. A class or subsection on organizational power and politics may be included.

Entrepreneurship

A variety of courses in entrepreneurship typically are offered to the management student. Topics may include how to finance ventures, how to conduct market research and write a business plan. Legal aspects of starting a business and how to market a business are introduced. Many of these concepts and lessons can be applied to a small business while some may also be applicable to working in or managing any type of project or business.
