Underrated Quarterbacks of the 2010 NFL Draft
Are These Four NFL Prospects Getting the Attention They Deserve?
Ryan Perrilloux - LSU / Jacksonville State
Best known for his attitude problems in Baton Rouge, Perrilloux is a big and mobile quarterback who is never afraid to toss the long ball. His early college years were marred in controversy and Les Miles eventually suspended him from the LSU football team. He went on to have success at Jacksonville State, but some still doubt whether or not he has developed the maturity necessary to succeed in the NFL. Perrilloux is definitely a risky choice, but you can bet there is a team out there that is willing to take a chance on him.
Jarrett Brown - West Virginia
An athletic quarterback with tremendous potential, Brown has demonstrated great ability during the 2009 season. He may be a bit rough around the edges, but he has shown sparks of brilliance in some big games. The biggest downside to Brown is his lack of starting experience. As a three year back-up, he played behind current NFL quarterback Pat White and when he was finally able to take over in 2009, he didn't put up very impressive passing numbers. Stats or not, Brown definitely has the upside to draw a fair amount of attention from NFL scouts come draft day.
Zac Robinson - Oklahoma State
Like Brown, Robinson had success against above average competition in college and has demonstrated tremendous NFL potential. He is a fast player who has drastically improved his decision making over the course of his career (relying more on his arm and less on his feet). After a solid showing in Mobile at the Senior Bowl, Robinson seems to be solidifying a spot as a top ranked prospect in the draft.
Joe Webb - UAB
Webb is probably the single most versatile athlete of all the 2010 quarterbacks eligible for the NFL draft (slightly edging out Illinois' Juice Williams). He has superior speed and has excelled at multiple positions while in college. Like Brown, Webb may be classified as having "raw talent", but a quick glance at his 2009 stats suggests otherwise. While throwing for over 2000 yards in that season, he also ran for over 1400 yards (67 yards short of the all time NCAA single season QB rushing record). Scouts cannot mention this guys name without including the term "wildcat" in the same sentence, but I personally see Webb as a future NFL starter. Combine his size and potential with quality coaching and I believe he has what it takes to make some serious waves at the next level.
