Understanding

A Poem of Love, Lost, and Misunderstood

L. Lee Scott
You told me, when you left,
That if you had to explain
I wouldn't understand.

I do not understand
Why your smile is gone,
Why I only hear your laughter in my dreams,
Why our home feels so empty.

But I understand three things:
I understand that I love you with
My whole heart, my mind,
My body, my soul.

I understand that we both swore
Our love would last until death parted us,
And I am still alive,
And still loving you.

I understand
That I will never see you again
In this life, on this world,
Or see your smile, hear your laugh,
Feel your gentle touch.

I will never understand why.

You make me wish I know how to write, Laurel! :o) Sometimes I wish I can read other people's mind and don't have to wonder so much... but then I thought about it a bit more and ... not knowing could actually be a blessing, ay? Thanks a bunch for sharing this with us!
