Understanding Facebook

You've probably heard the phrase "You can't believe everything you read" This phrase applies to Facebook. If you have recently joined, this guide will help you to interpret what people are really saying.

Relationships
Unless you know the person really well and know 100% that they are in a real relationship with the same person that they are in a Facebook relationship with, you cannot accept relationship statuses at fact. Often, friends enter into fake relationships on Facebook for a number of reasons--mostly for their own enjoyment. So, take every relationship with a grain of salt.

Pictures
You will be surprised by the pictures that get posted on Facebook. Some people are willing to post some very embarrassing pictures of themselves. Beware ahead of time that you might see something you didn't expect.

Events
Creating events on Facebook is a great way to let people know about your next party. However, just because someone RSVPs on Facebook does not mean that they will really come to your party. Generally, a No usually means no. Maybes also mean no. A Yes is more like a maybe.

Applications
You will probably receive multiple invitations a day to Applications. Most applications are useless and just take up space on your profile. Don't be afraid to say no or block all application invites. However, there are some really cool applications available. If you have the chance, take a look and see if there is anything that interests you.

Facebook Chat
Facebook Chat seems like it is an excellent addition to the experience. However, be aware that it sometimes disconnects you from the chat even though you are still on the sight. So, if your friend suddently is not online anymore, try sending them a message.

Obviously, this is not an extensive list, but is should give you a good start.
