Understanding Faithfulness in Our Society

Rita Jan

Faithfulness is sometimes a controversial topic of conversation. When someone cheats on you, it is the ultimate form of rejection. If someone is constantly suspicious of your activities, you may feel as if it does not matter whether or not you cheat. Loyalty and fidelity are easy to come by, if you are looking in the right places.

Women are far more likely to cheat than men. I am not saying that women prefer to be unfaithful. I am saying that so few men cheat and those that do can only do it rarely, that it is almost impossible to find one that does behave this way. If you have been cheated on more than once, it is probably not a coincidence and you are attracted to some pretty sick individuals. You may wish to fix that in yourself before looking for other men.

A spirit of suspicion breeds unfaithfulness. When someone is being faithful to you but they do not trust that you are doing the same to them, you will feel a small amount of betrayal. The more they harp on this over and over again, the less you wish to be around them. After a great deal of time has passed, you not only wish to avoid being in their presence, you feel that it's okay to cheat, since you are already being accused of it anyway. Do not be suspicious of others and do not allow their suspicion to affect your faithfulness to them.

Faithfulness is a choice.Someone else does not and cannot "make" you be faithful or "make" you cheat. This is your own doing, whichever way it is. Take responsibility for your actions and choose your own path, but do not say that someone else made you choose it. Relationships are not bound together by invisible ties. At any point, either party can walk away from the partnership of their own free will. There really is no occasion to cheat when you can just leave.

Faithfulness and loyalty have both been bashed around a great deal in our society. Separate fact from rumor, keep your emotions in check, and enjoy the full benefits of faithful behavior.
