Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP is everywhere. It is on Television, Radio, and the Internet. In short it is the process of using language patterns in order to enable one to reach a hypnotic state of mind to alter thought processes and behaviors. People tend to have a lot of misconceptions about hypnosis. They might believe that when you are hypnotized you are asleep and you might never wake up, or that you will tell the hypnotist secrets that you ordinarily would not dare speak of in your normal state of mind. But as with many other of these misconceptions there is simply no truth to it. Hypnosis is a natural process that your mind goes though numerous times on a daily basis.

NLP was co-founded by John Grinder and Richard Bandler in the mid 60's while they where researching the grandfather of hypnosis, Milton Erickson. Erickson was one of the most famous hypnotist ever. Mainly because of his rapid and semi-covert inductions, and secondly for his efficiency in being able to quickly provide relieve to his clients from a wide variety of ailments. Grinder and Bandler quickly realized that Erickson was using certain language patterns to get his miraculous results, so they went and built on those patterns and in doing so created many more different and more efficient techniques.

These patterns and techniques where very effective against a wide range of ailments, including pain relief, phobia's, clinical depression and many, many others. Not only is NLP useful for ailments it is also helped thousands of people increase there confidence and motivational levels. It has also been proven very useful in marketing and sales.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of different NLP language patterns today. So just to go through a few of the more popular ones. There is the Swish pattern, Mirroring pattern, Pacing and matching, the as-if pattern and the mistakes into experience pattern. Now, the major underlying factor that gives these patterns there true power is the fact that the only way that we even know that this universe exists is through our five senses which we call sensory modalities. Visual "sight '', Auditory " sound ", Kinesthetic " feel ", Gustatory "taste " and Olfactory "smell ". Now once we really stop and realize this one simple fact you start to understand just how important communication really is. communication is only about 10 percent verbal the rest is body language and facial expressions We also begin to understand the thought processes our mind has to go though just to comprehend the information we are hearing or reading. So these patterns are specially designed to alter those thought processes that the speaker knows the subject must undergo in order to perceive and comprehend what is being said while covertly lulling the subject into a hypnotic state from which they may thereby stimulate the sub-conscience mind.
