Understanding Primerica Job Recruiting

Is the "Business Briefing" What You Think it Is?

Chad Fowler
I want to first start this article off by saying I am by no means bashing Primerica as a company or the people who work for Primerica. The people I dealt with were very nice and professional, just a little slight in the information they would give. This is an article to help people decide whether to go to a Primerica "business briefing" or not. I had a hard time deciding whether to go to this thing after I had been personally contacted at my home by one of these recruiters. I'll first tell my story, and that should give you a pretty good idea of what happened.

I am in a job right now that is less than perfect (who's not) but I have been keeping my options open and following up on anything I think might be worth while, after all in this market I am ecstatic to at least have a job. I make pretty good money but could always use more but what it comes down to is "am I happy"? It may sound cliche but I know there are those of you out there that have good jobs but hate going to them every day. I get a call from a recruiter and he basically tells me he is excited to talk to me and I have come highly recommended. Of course I'm on cloud nine, thinking "finally, someone has noticed my hard work and I am finally going to get my chance". Not so fast!

I call the guy back and we talk for a while, by the way he was very nice and professional and I actually enjoyed talking to him. He tells me that Primerica has 15 offices in the area and they are working to open 30 more in the near future. I asked him where he got my information and he told me that it was passed down from a senior vice president. Wow, my name showed up on a list from a "senior vice president" as you can imagine I was pretty thrilled and feeling quite confident in myself. Well, I thought I should do a little research on this company I might be working for, so I did. I was less than thrilled to find out that this was basically a pyramid scheme. Now, I hate to call this a scheme because again, I have nothing against the people who work for this company or the company itself. it's just that, I have a job right now that pays a salary and I don't have to go into peoples homes and try to sell them insurance. Not for me.

I talked to this guy again due to my new found facts about the company through my research and he was very reassuring that everything was going to be good and that I should come in for a business briefing. He said "I don't like to do interviews because it is uncomfortable for the both of us". He tried to assure me that this was not a sales position, but a management position. Well, through my research I found that Primerica itself doesn't even have managers, it is all contracted through outside organizations. Primerica itself doesn't even have managers that are employed by Primerica, that's a little strange huh?

Well I didn't end up going to the "business briefing" just because of the things I read and heard from this gentleman. I wish I would have so I could tell you all what happened. Anyway I just wanted to let people know who are in my position what this thing is all about. If you get a call from a recruiter on behalf of Primerica, this is what will happen. They do not get your name from a senior vice president (they don't even have one) they get it from referrals from past business. It turns out they got my name because we did a will and trust through Primerica and my name came up because they are dipping into their customer pool to find employees. You have to understand what happens with these sort of things. These people who are calling you get paid more money for signing up more people under them. It's just like Mary Kay, Amway, Avon, just on a financial level.

If you are not looking for this type of business than don't waste your time or theirs. In further research I have found out that those who go to this "business briefing" get awed by the potential of making millions of dollars. If you do get to the end, I also read that you are asked to pay a fee if you want to continue with the program. Be careful when thinking about going down this road. Again, I am not bashing Primerica or the people who work for them, I just felt that the process was a little dis-honest. I'm sure there are those that have made millions through Primerica and good for them, I couldn't do it. Just know what you are getting yourself into before you set out on this adventure.

I find it funny that you would call primerica a pyrimid. When the company has been around for over 30 years. If this was true, primerica wwould have been shut down by now.

Why not give it a chance I work for Primerica and make good $$$ helping families in many ways... and working for Primerica as a career if you actually do the business at a slow place but do it you will be at a 6 figure income in 4-5 years or if you are motivated 1-2 years(like me) :)

I must say that I agree with Jason Lee and Jonathan Anderson. I myself am a Primerica Representative, and from what I read, you don't have a very clear understanding of how the company works. If you had actually gone to the business briefing, THEN you'd be in a better position to speak about what/what not the company offers. I'm a stay-at-home mom, and a very skeptical person. I've been with the company for only 2 months, but have already made pretty good money. It's all about what YOU want to do and how much EFFORT you personally want to put into it. It's not an opportunity for lazy people. But just as Jason Lee asked, Do you have a backup plan? If not, then I suggest you actually go to a business briefing, THEN re-write your article and even think about a legitimate opportunity to make extra income. I'd like to hear back from you with your comments. You can email me at: ladyb25@live.com

The thing that is interesting is that you didnt go to the business briefing, and you had an experience with one individual, yet you base the outline of a company on the approach one person took on recruiting? It sounds like your not a very open minded person.
