Understanding the Sensations of Reiki

If you're interested in Reiki, the simple and natural system of touch healing, you will probably want to know what it feels like. In this article, I will examine the sensations of Reiki healing and what they mean.

During a session, both the practitioner and the recipient feel the sensations of Reiki. Some people are more in tune with their bodies and may feel these sensations very strongly while others may feel only the most subtle sensations or none at all.

You may feel heat or coolness, tingling, buzzing, vibration, numbness, throbbing or itchiness. It's very common to feel sleepy and experience yawning during a Reiki session as the energies soothe and calm you.

The Sensations of Reiki - Hot Hands and Cold Hands

It is taught that once you attain your Reiki level 1 attunement, you will have hot hands. This is a credible sign that your attunement was successful and you are now a channel for Reiki energy.

The experience of the hot hands sensations can mean that the Reiki has been awakened in you but if you don't get your "hot hands", it doesn't mean you can't practice Reiki or feel other sensations of Reiki.

Sometimes, the temperature of your hands will change as you are giving a Reiki treatment. These sensations of Reiki can range from very hot to very cold. These experiences are different for everyone and can even vary amongst the practitioner and recipient.

The Sensations of Reiki - Extra Hands

Another of the most common sensations of Reiki is the feeling of additional hands participating in the Reiki session. One explanation of this phenomena is that spirit guides are present and lending their energy to the treatment.

This, of course, is a matter of opinion. However, this is one of the sensations of Reiki that is very often experienced by practitioners and recipients of Reiki.

The Sensations of Reiki - The Pulse

Another of the common sensations of Reiki is the pulsing sensation. It is felt in all parts of the body but most especially the palms of the hands. The palms are the outlets of Reiki energy. This pulsing sensation can take place at any time once you are attuned and the energy will flow from the palms of your hands, effectively creating the pulsing sensations of Reiki.

The Sensations of Reiki - Balls of Energy

When you are properly attuned, there may be times when the Reiki energy will build up in your hands. This will create an orb of energy, a pulsating ball that can be one of the oddest sensations of Reiki to experience.

Anytime that an excess of energy is felt as one of the sensations of Reiki, it could mean that self-Reiki is needed. It could also mean that there is no where for the energy to go and you could infuse inanimate objects with the energy.

The Sensations of Reiki - Vibrations

Vibrating hands is also one of the more common sensations of Reiki. When energy is being drawn from your palms at a faster rate than you are accustomed to, your hands may begin to vibrate.

It is believed that when a practitioner experiences these sensations of Reiki that the recipient is in great need of the energy. This may be uncomfortable to the practitioner but will pass once the recipient gets the Reiki energy that they need.
