Does your teen barely put down their cell phone? Do you have to carry an unlimited texting plan for your teen due to the abundance of texting your teen does? The good news is you're not alone you're with almost every parent out there in America now. As a parent to a text happy teenage daughter I become aware that when she sent me a text I could barely understand what she was trying to tell me.

Have you ever received a text from your teenage child and wondered what it said. This is caused by teens of today that having a special type of language I like to call teen chatter. As a parent to a text happy teenager I think it's important to know how teens are talking to one another.

These texting and online acronyms should be known by all parents to ensure safety of their teen in real life.

GNOC means "get naked on cam" meaning online webcams

LMIRL means "let's meet in real life" this could potentially put your teen into dangerous situations when meeting people offline.

MOS or DOS means "mom over shoulder" or "dad over shoulder". If you see MOS or DOS your teenage child is giving a warning to the person they are messaging that you are in the room and they should watch what they are saying. PIR is another used which stands for "parent in room". PAW stands for "parents are watching". POS carries the meaning "parent over shoulder". AITR simply means "adult in the room". These common little acronyms can alert you to something that may be happening that you should probably be aware of as a parent.

PRON while very easily disguised many parents still miss that this means porn.

TDTM stands for "talk dirty to me" this is a common term used prior to "sexting". Sexting is when two people exchange text messages that are of a sexual nature. S2R stands for "send to receive" while this may be casual photos they could also be photos that we worn all our teens not to share.
