Pregnant women often experience itching in their vaginal regions during pregnancy. Although most vaginal itching during pregnancy may be caused by topical irritation brought about by the change in the vaginal PH level, during pregnancy, it could also be a sign of infections. According to healthcare professionals, a pregnant woman is prone to yeast infection that could become very persist during pregnancy. Although yeast is normally present in small and harmless quantities in the vaginal areas, it could cause a infection when the bacteria would grow to a large number. Once the yeast increases in the vaginal area, this could cause irritation and itching.

Aside from yeast infection, vaginal itching during pregnancy could be a sign of a home serious condition. In some cases, vaginal itching could be a sign of STDs or STIs. If you are not really sure what is causing your vaginal itching, you should not just take any over the counter medications. Make sure that you visit your doctor and undergo some test just to make sure that you do not have any serious infections like STDs or STIs.

Preventing vaginal itching during pregnancy:

Preventing vaginal itching during pregnancy would require lot vigilance on your part. You should make it a point to observe proper hygiene. Make sure that you keep the vaginal area clean and dry. Note that bacterial would often thrive on damp and tight places therefore, always make sure that you dry yourself thoroughly after taking a bath or swimming in the pool. In case you swim in the pool, make sure that you change to something dry when you no longer have any intentions of going back to the water. Do not just sit around talking to your friends in your wet swimsuit because this might cause irritation in your vagina.

After a bowel movement, always make it a point to clean or wash from front to the back. If you use water in washing, make sure that the direction of the water is front the front to the back to avoid dirt from entering the vagina. Do not use douches when cleaning yourself because this could cause some dryness. If you have to use soap, use those unscented soap especially that bath soaps for sensitive skin such Dove or Oil of Olay.

To let the air pass through freely, avoid using tight clothing when you are pregnant. Use only white cotton panties and avoid those nylon or polyesters that could cause some irritations. Change your underwear every now and then to keep yourself fresh.
