You would think that shopping for milk would be a simple act. Yet, when you start noticing the different types of milk on the market today, you may realize that the milk industry isn't as simple as it once was. Is one type better than the next? Is one healthier? Does one really taste better than the next? It may be confusing, until you break up the facts on these various types of milk. Once you do that you can understand the new milk industry and trends a bit more.
Soy Milk
Soy milk is milk that will fit into most anyone's diet, unless they have a health reason not to drink it. It isn't real dairy milk. However, it does almost measure to the protein values that real diary milk contains.
However, those who have a thyroid disorder or a family history of breast cancer should not drink this type of milk. Soybeans are known to contain plant based estrogens. This can cause hormonal disruption.
Remember plain soy milk does not contain calcium, or Vitamin D. For this reason, you should choose a type of soy milk that is fortified or take a multivitamin to insure that you get enough of these important nutrients in your diet.
Almond Milk
Almond milk does contain calcium and vitamin D. It is also low calorie. If you buy the fortified almond milk it even contains healthy fats. However, if you are allergic to any type of tree nuts, you should not drink this milk. Remember almond milk is made from almond nuts.
Almond milk is not a good source of protein.
Rice Milk
Rice milk contains almost no protein. It also doesn't contain many other valuable nutrients. Mainly, you should only drink it if you like the taste.
Regular Cow's Milk
Yes, regular milk contains: calcium, vitamin D, and protein. Of course, if you are lactose intolerant or allergic to diary, you don't want to drink this type of milk.
Yes, there are many types of milk. Which one should you drink? This depends on your taste and your health needs.

I only buy organic low fat milk. There is a picture of a cow on the carton. I've tried the soy, but I gagged !!!
I've tried soy milk and some of the others, but I still like plain old cow's milk the best.
Thanks for sharing. Good old cow's milk works for me.
I'm not into soy or the rice milk but the almond milk sounds intriguing. I've heard some good things about it.
