Below are some tips to consider when buying lingerie/underwear.
Get fitted.
Get yourself measured professionally, most places do it for free, and it will make the world of difference to your look.
A badly fitting bra not only makes your breasts look smaller and your stomach look bigger, but it is also bad for your back and can cause the muscles that support your chest to become weaker, which can lead to sagging.
A professionally fitted bra will make you look at least 6lbs lighter, you will more than likely find out that the bra size you are wearing is much to small and that the fitter will tell you that you need a much bigger one. Don't be disheartened and listen to them, they know what they're doing!
What are you wearing?
What will you be wearing over this new underwear? Is it a tight, smooth top? If so, a lacy bra will not be the best choice. You will be able to see the material very clearly and this just looks cheap and unprofessional. Make sure you have a smooth bra under your top.
VPL
We've all been guilty of them at some point, but VPL's (visible panty lines) are never a good look.
Make sure you cannot see the outline of your underwear through your trousers/skirt/jeans/whatever.
Thongs are very rarely visible through clothes, but f you are not comfortable with thongs then seamless shorts will work just as well, just make sure they fit properly, they should be snug, but not too tight and fit properly around your bum.
Shaping
Gone are the days when body shaping tights were huge, black and unbearably uncomfortable, nowadays, slimming tights just look like normal tights.
They hold your belly in, give you a more toned appearance and no one will ever know!
You can also get full body shapers which go from your breasts to your calves, these are great if you are wearing a slinky dress, and they don't roll down like some of the other tights do. They'll make you look about 10lbs slimmer!
Practical.
Whilst you need to think about the material as you don't want it to show through your clothes, you also need to think about whether or not this material will be practical for you. Will this be an item you will wear on a regular basis? If so, you will need to make sure it is a robust material that is going to wash well and last.
Materials like silk, satin and lace are very beautiful, but not practical.
Stretch lace (a mix of lace and elastane) looks fantastic, fits brilliantly and as long as you don't wash it on a high temperature will last for ages!
Cotton is another obvious choice as it is comfortable and durable.
Health.
When it comes to pants/panties, try to avoid materials that don't breathe, materials such as nylon worn over even a short period of time can be a major contributor to conditions such as thrush.
If you wear pants that are not made from a natural, breathable material, make sure they at least have cotton gusset sewn into them.

Post a CommentBeing fitted is essential. I remember some Oprah show where she had all the female audience members get properly fitted for a bra. It made quite a difference. Some looked much thinner. All looked happier (well, a few were a bit embarrassed but that passed when they got free underwear)
Great article! I read that up 75% of women wear the wrong bra size because they never get the proper measurements.
Good article - remember when VPLs just went with "the package"? Watch a few shows from the 70s and you'll see what I mean.
I've heard that something like 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Great advice! :)
Great advice, but I just can't see myself being measured for undies... :o)
I don't wear undies so that solves almost all my problems lol
